Partial ResistFollow

#1 Mar 19 2008 at 10:08 AM Rating: Decent
I have a max out hit rating right now it is 168 and I have the proper talents. I am still noticing that I am getting a lot of partial resists, on bosses with no fire resist. Not like supremus who has a lot of fire resistance and partial resist are expected.

Can anyone speculate as to why this is. Could it be that all bosses have built in resistances, where you will get partial resistances. Or is it that hit rating only affects that the boss will be hit and has nothing to do whether it will be partially resisted.

And do you think that if I put the plus 20 spell penetration instead of subtlety will help this problem.

Most (if not all) have built in resistance that CANNOT be brought down by Spell Penetration. It kinda sucks.

Spell Hit has only to do with LEVEL resists, and level resists do not have a partial chance-- it is a check whether it hits or gets resisted fully.

Spell Penetration, as you seem to know, deals with RESISTANCE resists, and these have the chance to do 100%, 75%, 50%, 25%, or 0% damage.

Be aware that yes, there is a 0% damage resist based upon RESISTANCE stat and not LEVEL. I do believe you cannot attain that without building up a resistance past "Poor", and I have no idea if the message in the combat log will be identical to a full resist.

I've been hoping to get the MH shoulders that give the +20 spellpen and give tha a shot against supremus. My dps could be so much better if my spells were not all getting partially resisted (up to 1/2 sometimes, even with CoE on him).

I hear ya Anobix, supremus sucks as a fire mage. I wonder if frost or arcane will do more damage even though I am fire specced. But I can never seem to figure out which actually does more damage, so I stick with fire.

I'm stacking a spell penetration set for when we get to him. Also, I've invested in some Elixirs of Empowerment.

Stacking anything for Supremus is pointless unless you really want to be top. He's probably the easiest boss in game.

I'd be willing to believe easiest boss in T6. But surely he can't be easier than Lurker.

Also, I always try to be the top. The other night, I was pissed that another mage beat me by about 6k damage total in SSC/Hyjal. I spent hours analyzing why, and have managed to figure out how she did it, so I'm not as angry as her damage would have been roughly 15% lower without me there. Smiley: wink

the only issue that I have with him is with the volcanoes. Their blast radius is far larger than the explosion shows. I should have taken a screenshot or two of the last fight that we got him down, I was about 8-10 yards away from the explosion radius on the ground but ended up dying anyway, must be lag or just poor coding of them (my blink was on CD, so I couldn't just get out of it that way).

I really think shade of akama is the easiest boss though, at the very least the fastest.

On a tad unrelated note, i still think Morogrim Tidewalker is the hardest mage boss, boss with a TON of HP and loads of adds, i even use mage armour on that one while for all the other bosses fire armour.
Then 2 healers get tombed during a big murloc wave and its game over.

Weve wiped more on him then on Kael'thas / Vash due the sheer endurance fight / gear check he is.
I just couldnt believe how much harder this boss, especially on mage, compared to the rest in TK / SSC, my guilds mages agree, anyone over here?

(My guild is 4/5 MH 4/9 BT, im the "old guard" dude that tags along once in a while when he has time :P)

My guild never really had trouble with him once we got him down a couple of times. I almost always use mage armor unless it is a shorter fight or if I have an spriest in my group.

That being said, the fight isn't that horrible for mages, if you have the right nova cycle (we have a hunter frosttrap from behind and myself and another mage have a nova cycle coming from infront of him). We have great melee dps on tidewalker though so it doesn't make it too hard. The worst moment is when you are evocating and he does his ground slam/earthquake thing. Overall, he is quite a bit easier when you have warlocks seeding. We also have a couple of paladins bomb healing the tank (and our one prot pally gathering as best as he can).
