Black and white answer to defenseFollow

Ok, I'm just looking for a black and white answer to what my defense should be as a protection paladin. I really don't care about tables and what gets pushed off it and different equations that are longer something quite long. I'm here to play a game, not take a math quiz.

I know defense needs to be 495, but then you have DODGE PARRY and BLOCK options below. These need to be...? Or is there some other number I'm looking at?
I believe one can be higher to compensate for another, in that case as a paladin i would expect the higher block rating to be better?

I'm nearly about to ding into 70, just hit revered with Keepers of time and purchased their crap. I'll then be per-suing the Steamvault head piece and Mechenar chest piece. My Scyer/Aldor faction isn't really applicable, as i haven't worked on either. Mostly ran instances.

thx info

defense needs to be 490

Dodge+Parry+Block(with Holy shield, not redoubt)+Total miss = 102.4%.

To make the math super super easy, plug your numbers in here -- if you don't have the Libram of Repentance, don't add that one in:

Base Miss = 5%
HS        = 30%
Libram    = 5%
Miss      = ??%
Dodge     = ??%
Parry     = ??%
Block     = ??%
----------------
         ( 102.4 -)
Total     = Add Them
================
          = Subtract to see
            how much more you
            need.

also note, it is not black and white. too much dodge and you wont get hit, which equals less passive threat and less mana and leads to less active threat. too little dodge and you take too much dmg. then you have block value which is nice but eats other stat budgets.

tanking is like making good chili, you gotta keep adding and subtracting ingredients til you find your taste.

Great answer! That's also a good metaphor for the +heal/spell crit/mp5 question as well.

Metas - if you don't have the requirement filled for other gems (different for each Meta) you will not get the bonus. Is that what you were looking for?
