I hit level 40 last night and as I was using assigning my talent point, I realized that I have no clue what I am doing. Can someone please look at my build and tell me if I am close to a decent build.

I a little information about my lock. I play on a pvp server, I mostly quest and grind solo. I keep my void out mainly. My main goal at this point is to level.

Build

I am up for any suggestions.

Thanks

Your build isnt half bad. And there are a million ways to go from here. Well maybe not a million ..

taking into account that you solo play a lot on a pvp server and wish to focus on a leveling i would suggest you stick to affliciton, however a good demonology build should become a viable option in your mid 50's.

since you are soloing threat isnt that big of an issue. The threat reduction of imp soul drain will not let your void magicly hold agro and threat in pvp is pointless. So 1/2 should suffice for the mana boost.

1/5 shadow embrace should be enough to get the benefit from this talent, being an extra dot and therefor helping your soul siphon. 2/5 doesnt make much sense, if the damage reduction was that good, might aswell go for 5/5, but i havent seen the math on that in a while, so i think concensus is still 1/5 is enough.

These 2 points you freed up can go to amp curse and curse of Ex. Especially the Curse of Ex is a nice on in a pvp server i would say and isnt half bad for those times you are soloing a group quest and an elite. (kiting kiting)

After that your choice for darkpact if a very nice one and will help with leveling speed if you use it smartly, especially when more +dmg gear comes available to you.

5/5 contagion, 2/2 iHot (oh sh*t button pve wise, but hell it works wonders in pvp aswell, never pass this up if you are going this deep in affliction),

Then 2 points somewhere, some say emp corruption, some say suppression 3/5 and imp drain soul 2/2.. since im tossing corruption on anything but critters (and even some of those at times) i picked 2/3 emp corruption. This is useless unless you are stacking +spelldmg.

Of course the alternative could be going down demo or destro, where destro could be fun for burst damage, but since you said you wanted to focus on leveling i think most will agree that affl is the way to go. Demo is a possibility for survivabilty, but will slow down leveling a bit, untill you reach mid 50's where you can have all the right talents to support a felguard.

Of course you can have a lot of fun with a build specced around using the succy. Having her out for dps and seduce (pvp) isnt half bad, i have no experience here though in the low levels. I forsee a problem with the lack of corruption as a dot, of the fast shadowbolt crits and speccing 5/x/10 early on seems like a generaly bad idea.

Stick to affliction. and have fun fearing, dotting, kiting, draining and saccing the void for a shield :-p
