Prot spec wanting to pvp at 69Follow

Hey guys at the moment I am a lvl 68 warrior prot specced and have been tanking instances etc. since about level 60.Armory Link

Anyway I want to get into some pvp at 69 for a while as a change of pace before I level to 70 and get owned in pvp lol. So I was wondering what sort of spec I should be (im guessing arms, but is prot viable?). The main problem is I only really have tanking-related gear atm and no pvp gear.

So, what sort of stats should I be looking at in gear, and what gear can you recommend I aim for? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Your first aim would be SBV (shieldblock value) for DPS. Your main DPS would come from Shield Slam, and SBV increase dmg in shield slam.

Other stats would be Resilience, Stam. You should also try getting much avoidance like dodge, block and parry.

So you think I should stay in prot spec for it then?
#4REDACTED, Posted: Mar 19 2008 at 1:09 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) prot is only viable for PvP if you have gear of tier 5-6 quality really. other than that you dont stand a chance of doing any serius damage. in your case go arms, get the biggest 2h wep you can and you are well on your way. as said before, stamina, resiliance, AP and crit is your friends for equipment if your doing BGs. if your doing arena focus more on your damage than your survivability at the start atleast since warriors are generally the last to get attacket in arenas(yes i know some will argue this, and im not saying its not important, just not as important as his dps)

Yeah I was thinking I might have to switch to arms, and if stam is still the main stat then my tanking gear should be ok to start out (though it has some +def which aint gonna do too much).

Any idea what the best 2H is at lvl 69? I know I can probably look this up myself (and i will) but if anyone has a suggestion that would be great.

when i was leveling my warrior he was prot at level 66 and i could beat lvl 70 rogues in BG's, if there was mroe than one of them i could usually hold off until help arrived.

prot is fun in BG, just make sure no one is attacking you from behind or you are just as venerable as anyone else.

for prot to really be useful in pvp (arena even) you'll need a huge SBV, as was stated earlier by sesseth.

their are a few good video's available and a forum for it on tankspot.com. You really need to have top end gear (t6 yes, but tell 2.4 it's not possible to stack 2 pieces of t5 and get the 4 set bonus of the t6) to be even remotely reliable for burst damage.

Yeah thats what I have heard from around the place. Wouldn't mind trying it if I ever get that well geared, but I don't think that will happen any time soon and definately not at 69.

That being said, what gear should I be focusing on for the arms spec then? I recently bought the Crystalforged War Axe for it, but I need a clue as to what enchants and armour I should be getting.

the crystal forged war axe is....ok at 69, but as soon as you hit 70 it becomes obselite.

you will come up agaisnt a few 70's with 0 resi and it will tear them up, but anything over 100 resi and you will struggle.

save for the S1 2handers as the weapons are more important than the armor. 28k doesnt take that long to grind and if its a BG weekend you can get it in 1-2 days

First off: Devious, mannie, have you been posting drunk lately? Not to be all grammar ****, but several of your later posts have had some 3-year old spelling in them :P Nothing wrong with the content though, as usual.

Now, I'll throw in my opinion about this.

At OP: Always, always, ALWAYS collect different gear sets! Basically, what you're up to now is gearing up A LOT because of your only-tanking gear. Now, if you're gonna PvP prot I'd suggest farming AV and tanking the bosses... then again; that is tanking and I realize that's what you're wanting to take a break from.

As a prot warrior in PvP, I'd simply just DW and Devastate Spam. Running around trying to do real damage is pretty hopeless, but that's the best option if you ARE trying. If you try to PvP with shield... well, as others have pointed out you need stupid amounts of SBV, and even then you won't be very great.

Arms is a really good option if you plan to do this PvP thing for a long time. So, if you decide to respec. Some talents are optional of course, but overall it's a pretty good PvP build for the level.

As for weapons, this, I'd say, is by far the best PvP weapon for the level. However, you need to get boosted in SH to get it.

Would love that mace lol, but I doubt I will be getting through SH before 70 any time soon.

Also I realise the crystalforged war axe will become obsolete, but I only payed 16g for it I so I think it was a worthy choice.

At the moment I am hunting down some good pvp gear that you can get from quest rewards, and hopefully in a few days I will have a decent collection.

I just got lazy, and usually am indeed drunk!

I'd like to spend more time being grammatically correct. Alas, the time it takes to thoroughly check for ","'s, ";"'s, sentence structure and or proper CAPITALIZATION, I've been spending playing EVE (Caldari yar!!!).

As for PvP weapons, I do highly suggest getting the S1 gear. And for gearing for PvP, getting the S1 gear first, just makes PvP that much easier.

On a side note about PvP gear in PvE; You'll find it's suitable for DPS or Tanking. It's not top notch, when compared to gear specifically made for those roles, but it's good gear that will last you through kara.

They tend to have tons of stamina. And while resilience doesn't do all that much for tanking, other helping lower your crit cap requirements for defense skill, the sockets can.

You will definitely want to be 2h 31/30, 33/28 or 33/25/3 spec for PvP when you first go into it. MS is just too important to warrior PvP tactics in arena, let alone BG's, to give up for slight added survivability.

Getting a nice slow 2h (highest top end damage) and stick with it until you can afford a S1 weapon, then get the rest of S1 and vindicator's gear. Just for simplicity's sake, stacking resilience and AP/armor pen will last you quite a while. Crit is negated by resilience on your targets, so axe spec is nerfed. Sword spec or Mace spec are preferred, they get you about the same results in PvP. Some people will say Mace spec > Sword spec, I say Sword spec > Mace spec. I have my argument, and they have theirs. Pick the one that helps you out with the best weapon you have right now.

Utarius, just a quick irrelevant (to the topic) note here, but you should really link to Allakhazam when you link items. The reason is shown by hovering your mouse over the example below.

And it's not a premium membership feature.

Really? I thought it was... Guess I'll start doing that then. I like the short links better though.

I'm trying 68-prot PVP (basically the same...)

my spec will soon be in my sig.. but its basically a tanking spec.
I'm dual wielding my tank wep and a 1.5speed DPS offhand sword and generally spamming devestate with heroic strike.

any other warrior/rogue/melee is generally a cakewalk.

Casters and other ranged aren't too much of a problem, as long as i can keep spamstring on them their armor will be 0 in a few seconds and spamming devestate/heroic strike generally takes them down.

This is all in Eots and WSG though, don't try it in AV, the 70's will shred you.

other problems include not having Deathwish, no mortal strike, and no big crits, you're hoping all those Devestates are gonna hit hard, and you can whittle away their HP quickly, if you don't crit much, you're not gonna kill anything with a brain.

In Eots and AB you can happily defend a node single-handidly and just call or Backup while you put on your shield and wait it out.
Flag-carrying is just lol. 10K unbuffed HP, 10K unbuffed armour. add a healer onto that and you can basically auto-run and AFK a flag home.

I would give 69-prot PVP an 8/10 :)
No way I'll try it at 70 though.

edit: 8 out of 0 would be a pretty high score..

As a bit of an update, I made the switch to arms and am really enjoying it in pvp. I top wsg and ab almost every match I play, and seeing as I have all my prot gear stuff, I can still grab the flag and switch into my prot gear and have 12k health with commanding shout, making me a pretty tough beast even without the prot talents.

I will definately try prot pvp before I level to 70 though. I would like to see how I go, but first I am just going to enjoy topping the matches and get some honour to get some decent pvp gear for level 70.

Any suggestions as to what pieces I should be looking at first to buy with my honour let me know, so I have a goal to work for.

Im a 70 PROT Tank.. I respecd to Raid (*single tear).

I pop in to a bg every now and then to feel nastalgic. Prot Warriors are actually pretty useful provided you are geared with some good resilence gear. Prot warriors on a one on one are meant to die. Just the way it goes. Dont expect to be top of the charts. In AV you are in valuable for bosses! the bg will call for a TAnk and you will respond OMW. Feel all important as they yell to heal your *** and keep you a live. Other than that, dont expect glory or a lot of action. In AB you hold the Farm or stables by yourself really! Your job is to Stay alive long enough for help to arrive. EOS pretty much the same. Stay at a FORT and hold. WSG can be more fun cause your the flag carrier or could be!

All in all your a big ol turtle! lol. YOu can also get into battles! But your job is to draw attention, charge into the middle TC a storm and spam devistate on everyone you can. IF you have a smart healer backing you up they will spam heal you while the DPS downs the rest quickly before they retarget. BUt really you will die before your opponents and seldom get the kill honor.

SO is it Viable sure! Ive been in AV fighting a group of 7 or 8 trying to down me, Ive got a good healer covering my back and a hunter. The fight took forever
but we won against overwhelming odds, all because our opponents didnt target the healer or the hunter. Doesnt always work that way but in the chaos of battel anything is possible. JUSt dont expect Glory! haha...oh and sometimes I can hear an opponent yell into the computer "DIE ALREADY!" esspecially hte COmbat Rogues! LOL

my vote if you wanna respec 31/30 2H so much fun. 2handers miss less and do uber damage! EXECUTE EXECUTE EXECUTE!
