new to level 40 SPFollow

#1 Mar 18 2008 at 7:32 PM Rating: Decent
I just got to 40 with my NE priest, has been all shadow except wand spec for a little while. Now I got SF and want to review my rotations. Sometimes I start with a biggie MB or Smite, always SW:P and VE, then flay flay. If mob < 50% I maybe do another flay then wand. If they are >50% I scream and flay until they get back and repeat, redo'ing SW:P if it drops off. I only bubble if 2 mobs come, and can go 2-3 mobs between drinks. ALL of the above is solo, groups I VE and Flay.

Questions:

1. any suggestions?

2. I see people not use VE. I thought that was a key to being a SP.

3. Should I worry more about geat and chants? I am 300 tailor and 285 enchants.

Your basic cast sequence at that level goes
mind blast, sw:p, ve (optional), mindflay

then either:
fear or bubble (pick fear if you can get away with it)

then flay and wand till dead

That will kill most things in a relatively mana efficient way, try to use shield sparingly as you'll wind up drinking a lot more often if you spam it.

Also, don't bother with enchants, you're only going to replace your gear with new stuff in the short term anyway.

I just crested 40 myself, and I know that I rarely need to use VE.

Usually I go MB, SW:P, Flay, Flay, [MB], Wand and I take very few hits, By the time spirit tap is done running its course I have regened most of the health I have lost.

Only use VE when you need it. Casting it when you are near full health is just wasting mana.

I haven't uses Smite for a while myself. You should look and see which gives you more DPM, MB or Smite. I have a feeling just sticking with MB will be a better way to go.

Well if you're interested in saving mana at all you'll steer clear of smite, pops you out of shadow form whenever you use it.

Alcattle, make sure that you are at max range when casting the Mind Blast to start... walk backwards and cast your SW:P, followed by 2 mind flays... if you do this at range the mind flays will go through without you taking any damage to stop a tick. From their base your next move much like you are... fear if needed, bubble if needed, or just go with the wand. If Health is still high up I will allow for a mob to wail on me for a bit while I cast a mindblast knowing that the next mob or so I can get my health back with a VE.

VE is a key to be a solid off healer in instance runs, but it does generate lots of threat when combined with the dps that you do. So be careful with that. In most instance runs you do not even use VE unless you are on a boss fight.

Gear and Enchants are all relative... we all go through leveling spurts where it seems we ding really quick. Since you tailor or enchant, give yourself any enchants that help you out to raise your skill or do not cost you anything. You will be able to keep yourself effectively geared and enchanted without breaking the bank. Even +3 INT is better than +0.
