Elemental: Spell Crit vs Spell HasteFollow

The new gear (2.4 patch) seems to heavily focus on spell haste, rather than spell crit or spell hit. Anyone know why Blizzard shifted this?

Is there something new that's changed where haste > crit?

It's just another option. Whether it is useful for you is based on current gear level and what kind of spell rotation you use. The math and theorycrafting is difficult due to lack of direct comparisons, but in general go for haste if you're undergeared, BUT still go for spell crit if you have mana issues.

The usefulness of haste is a contentious issue. While it increases DPS via more casts, some argue that you only see the gain from this if you get an opportunity to make that extra cast (ie: you would need to make 100/haste% casts to see extra cast). It is worth noting that while this is correct, it also reduces the changes a spell will be affected by interrupts/pushback.
Generally speaking, if you are undergeared, cannot use a LB/CL rotation, or do not have 4pc T6, haste would be useful. High gear levels and the ability to use CL in your cast rotation will count against using haste [Note: in 2.4, CL will NOT count against haste]. Also, it is important to notice that a high number of haste items are poorly itemised, lacking crit for example.

From Elemental Shaman Bible. Keep in mind that spell haste WILL lower the GCD in 2.4, making 1.5 second cast spells benefit.

This graph will show what kind of haste:dmg ratio you will get in 2.4 using a 3LB/1CL rotation for varying amounts of haste.

I still think while haste might give you more DPS, you will still want a lot of spell crit for the mana efficiency.

edit : I must seriously have a rate-down camper.

Haste is amazing, I wont mind switching up some of my gear for haste even if it means I will lose mana faster.

for 5 mans haste will help me burn **** down quicker and for 10 mans it will help clean up trash fast, i may want to change my gear up for a boss fight that may take some time to down, so i could switch out for more crit gear no biggie.

Haste scales up with the more you have.
If you sacrifice some crit for haste, you will not get as great a bonus out of it until you hit enough crit in your gear that you can afford to get a lot of haste and still maintain mana efficiency.

I don't think everyone will go out of there way to get haste, or even should, I was speaking more so for myself, in a 5 man drinking every other pull becomes standard, so it really is not a bad deal losing mana efficientsy in these settings if it means enemies die faster.

But I will agree on a boss fight I will put on any gear with more crit so I can last as long as possible before going oom.

But there are still many factors, what buffs do i have on do i have a shadow priest? If I have both BoW and a Shadow Priest I will probably not mind missing out on some crit, it all depends, but again this is more talking about myself, i don't have much to do atm but collect different sets of armor for different situations ^^

point is yes haste is awesome, if you can invest in it, but I will agree if you do not have a solid crit heavy set for when its needed you are kind of ******** yourself.
