oomkins [Rant]Follow

i never realy understood why people called monkins oomkins.

but seeing some of the balance druids out there, its easy to know why.

i have managed to keep a nice balance between my spell dmg and int;

117 spell dmg
3800 mana at level 43

i was in a group with a 47 moonkin who i raped in damage because he was constanlty oom.

its all good having close on 200 spell dmg at 47, but if you have only 2.7k mana then wtf is the point.

same happened in pvp, i was jumping around Mf spamming as u do and managed to save the flag carrier from 4 hordies, and stil have mana to heal my self.
there was also a 49 blance spec druid running with us, he must of ran out of mana in 10 seconds.

i now believe it is people like this taht have given moonkins such a bad name, and they should be wiped of the planet.

on a lighter note i topped 1k with starfire 1079 at lvl 43 w00t w00t i 2shotted a mage i love it

balance for life

Name may also have been from the past, and stuck. Balance druids did not have innervate at first, and itemization wasn't as good as it is now (things such as increased quality on dungeon drops and quest rewards).

Well at 70 Boomkins typically don't stack int. Spell Damage is more important for us because in PvE settings at least our main rotation is Insect Swarm then 4 starfires on a boss and repeat. Starfire cast times are long enough that with good timings of pots I rarely go OOM unless we're on a boss that demands particular mana endurance and then I'll innervate myself if our healers don't need it. However, on trash and when things like Demon Chains and Flares spawn I'll wrath spam which drains my mana at a much higher rate. It all depends on your cast rotation.

Mmhmm, cast rotation is MUCH more important for conservation than a large mana pool.
It's nice that you are able to whip off six million moonfires, but moonfire alone does very little real damage, and yours probably isn't hitting for much comparatively.
I myself open with Swarm, moonfire, Starfire starfire swarm starfire starfire swarm.
If the enemy is below 20% health (excluding big bosses) I switch to Swarm Starfire Wrath x2 Starfire Wrath x2.
This seems to be the best balance of conservation and damage that I've found.

This.

The crit chickens of today are much much different than the Oomkins of ages past(pre-TBC).

A friend of mine showed this to me... I don't remember where he got it from, so sorry I'm not able to give proper credit to the artist:

There's no Boom in Oom.

Mages can Evocate, Warlocks can Life Tap, S Priests have Vampiric Touch and a shadow fiend. Moonkins have Innervate, which is based on Spirit regen. Spirit is pretty much the last stat you're going to find on casting DPS gear, so your innervates are going to restore less mana than they would for a holy/disc priest or resto druid. Also the fact that you can innervate a healer means that you won't always get to innervate yourself, leaving you with Dreamstate, mana pots, and possibly Intensity.

Moonkins do still have a disadvantage with their mana pool, but it's something you can mostly overcome. Your biggest obstacle will probably be getting into 5-mans, since you're competing for the same 3 DPS slots as classes with more useable CC. Cat druids, Retadins, Arms/Fury Warriors, and Ele/Enhance shamans are also usually at the bottom of the list for 5-man DPS.
