Emerald Green vs. Avian Heart - Druid Idol!Follow

The Idol of the Avian Heart dropped for me this weekend, supposedly to replace my Idol of the Emerald Green.

But I'm wondering if it's really a better idol? Ideally I'm keeping 3 LB's rolling on the tanks for the full battle, so the final bloom only occurs either when the battle is near over and won, or on accident if I miss cast. Do the folks who use this, let their LB's expire to get the benefit of the idol?

And even if they do, isn't Emerald Green a better bet? Getting 88pts/tick is 616 hp healed, 1848 if it's multiplied by 3. The Avian Heart, by contrast gives a boost of 136 (408 if it counts on 3 blooms).

Any thoughts or advice on which way to go?

If you are ToL and use rolling LBs then I'd stick with the queen. Don't take my word for it, I have yet to heal XD But am changing to ToL at 70, and scared as h3ll about it... so I read up on it A LOT.

Here's a REALLY in depth site... I really like this site too.

Here's a quote that I got my info off of

[Idol of the Emerald Queen]: The best idol for rolling lifeblooms, and a very good idol in general due to the versatility of lifebloom.

Edit x2:
Oh and it looks like the heart only works on Healing Touch? Would not have anything to do with the bloom of LB?

Don't get me wrong, I'd take the Heart just in case you respec to Boomkin/Healer (the Healing Touch spec).

Queen for trees, avian heart for arena. I think it's the best way to have it.

As GYFFORD already pointed out, if you're mostly rolling Lifeblooms, you will get more benefit out of Emerald Queen. He also pointed out that Avian Heart affects Healing Touch, so I'm not sure where you got confused about the Idol working on Lifebloom's final heal.

Also, your numbers are a bit off. The "periodic healing by up to 88" affects the entire amount healed, not each tick. The "periodic healing" in this case is only to differentiate the Lifebloom ticks vs. the final heal. So it would be 88 / 7 (1 tick per second).

I believe this bonus healing is also affected by the Spell Damage Coefficient, which reduces all bonus healing added to Lifebloom to 51.8%, which would change that to add about 6 extra healing per tick from the Idol ( [88 / 7] * 0.518). This effect does stack with each application of Lifebloom, so a 3-stack would give you an extra 18 per tick (or 126 bonus healing total over the entire 7 seconds) from the Idol.

For Healing Touch, you would receive 100% of the total bonus from Avian Heart for 136 bonus healing from the Idol with each cast.

All that being said, if you really wanted to get crazy, idols can be swapped mid-combat. You can always make a macro with an Idol change for each spell you cast and use them both.

I misread the Avian Heart description and saw Lifebloom instead of Healing Touch. Just a dumb mistake. Thanks for pointing that out and not giving me too much grief about it (though it would have been deserved).

Well, that does answer my question, I'll be sticking with the Queen.

Zusa, thanks for the math correction as well. I'm curious about the macro though. I'm thinking of something along the lines of

/use idol of the avian heart
/cast nature's swiftness
/cast healing touch
/use idol of the emerald queen

That's one of my NS macros with swapping the idols in and out. Would that work?

when you are in combat you get a global cooldown for swapping idols, wich means you would have to click the macro once to equip the idol, then a second time to get NS and healing touch to trigger

Yeah you're right, sorry... I think they changed that recently and I forgot about it. I don't use idol swapping macros myself, I just remember what I've read.

I looked it up today and found(1) that you can maybe get around the GCD effect by swapping the Idol after the cast. There is some debate about the effictiveness of using this method, however. Depending on latency, you may or may not receive the effect. For something instant like Lifebloom this would be important, but not as noticeable with Healing Touch since the spell result is calculated at the end of the cast.

Also, be careful with chain casting with these macros. If the GCD hasn't completely finished and you hit another macro to cast something else, the spell won't cast and the idol swap will trigger a new GCD.

If you'd like to try it out and see if it works for you, this should work:

#showtooltip
/cast Healing Touch
/equip [noequipped:Idol of the Avian Heart] Idol of the Avian Heart
