Assuming I have a full set of both D3 dungeon sets (beast lord and desolation), which I don't. What might be the optimum mixture of 2 pieces each?
Using the gear that I am currently wearing (see messy link below in sig), I'd like to keep for now 2 of the desolation set to help the hit rating, and 2 of the beast set for that 4sec trap cooldown.
I've tried playing with Cheeky's spreadsheet, and never had any luck getting it to work. I'll keep messing with it and see but perhaps some of my fellow 'zammers have some helpful insight?

This is actually a more optimal then getting 1 whole set. Both sets don't have a very good 4 piece buff as it is and their 2 piece buff is really nice.

Just be careful what pieces you pick up so you can get the most out of them.

Exactly my point, but I dont want to gimp my dps and other stats horribly by replacing what little amount of shiny purple stuff I have as well.

I've been considering that question also. I'm considering the mix below. I still need to pick up one more piece of the Desolation set.

Beast Lord Curaiss
Beast Lord Mantel

Gauntlets of Desolation
Greaves of Desolation

As an engineer, I made Sure Strike Goggles. Otherwise I would have also gotten the Beast Lord Helm.

The desolation Shoulders are the only really good piece imo, taking the hands to go along because you wont lose out on to much agility then...
then the BL helm and chest... and greaves of patience from durnholde and you've got a nice few pieces of gear.
