I am certain that I used to have a mage leveling guide bookmarked from here for when I planned to level up an aoe frost mage for multiple mob grinding.

Now...as my new alt is a level 10 lowbie, where is the best place to start putting your talents (respec is obviously going to have to happen at some point).

Keep it simple and start with improved fireball? Or go directly into the frost tree?

Whatever suits you. Seriously. I've started off with all three talents on different mages, it really doesn't start to make a difference until you get into the second tier talents.

I'd say improved fireball or improved frostbolt, depending whether you're going fire or frost. The CW here seems to be that it's not worth putting points in arcane early on.

Well...I think since I really like the Frost tree I'll be sticking with that. I like the control I've seen it provide, and I plan to multiple mob AOE at some point.

While you may find AoE grinding fun, thanks to the changes to quest experience you will no longer find it to be the fastest way to level. Using a leveling guide(James' guides, which are free, are some of the best out there) will find you outpacing leveling any other way.

Everyone thinks they are going to AOE stuff down. AOE is effective, but not really efficient until higher lvls. If you're lvl is 10 - you've got about 30 levels before you get a mount - and thus can round up mobs effectively.

Stick to quests for leveling. When you hit 70 - use AOE to Farm mats.
