Help for a 50 DruidFollow

#1 Mar 14 2008 at 4:23 PM Rating: Good
There is a Druid in our guild, almost always plays solo but has shown interest in getting to 70 and starting to raid. I ran her around The Hinderlands to get a level, and we talked about her Spec and what she likes. She said she is feral and does not like to heal. Her playstyle is cast then bear. Rotation was root, wrath, moon and then tank. Does ok, but you can see the solo play come out. Her gear is poor, that would good to get some ideas on also.

Amynta

Please help out the young Druid and see if you can make me proud.

I don't get it. Was that the wrong armory? That druid is ballance, so spell casting would be better to start off with... but it's soo slow in leveling IMO.

Honestly, I'd recommend to her that she? go Feral. I've gone the boomkin route for a day (literally), and hated it. It was fun, spell crits were nice'ish, and with some of the Outland armor I'll bet it rocks! +33 spell crit on a quest item alone. Just pre-outlands it's a bit hit or miss on the crits, unless they instance like crazy and get the 'good' gear for that level.

Recommend going Feral, I am up to lv70 then I'll change to my healer spec and start up my instance running (starting with something low like ramps or something.

Cat form is crazy fast mob killing, yes you'll need to pop out of it and HoT every now and then, but IMO it's faster than: Root..... Wrath.... Moonfire... *go make a sandwich*... Insect swarm, Wrath x3. Drink, heal, etc.

Gear is kind of all over the place. I suggest loading up with all agi/+stam or +str, And just knocking out the levels that way. Feral has more survival tricks than Moonkin does. I've Feral charged, bashed, and travel formed out of a really messy situation. <--seen it in a Battleground a bunch, it worked like a charm.

She's using bear form for killing mobs. That's not horrible. In HP I'll admit there were plenty of mobs I use bear form for. Taskmasters? or w/e the mobs that has the slaves are. Once he's dead the others leave, but I went thru a full side of them w/o healing once.

Meh, it boils down to if it got her to lv50 and she's happy? than she should keep playing her game. If she's looking for advice, then direct her here to the sickies. Hope some of that helped

I was the idiot that said "hey, I just respecced resto, who's up for heroic UB?" in guild chat. Boy was that fun...good learning experience though.

Anyway, alcattle, your friend needs to respec, regear, and relearn the class. While casting then bear might mean very little damage taken, it's also fairly slow. A cat form attack, particularly with a stunlock, can mean very little damage on most occasions as well - since you kill the mobs so damn quick.

I would recommend this build for level 50, from there putting points into resto (furor, naturalist, and omen of clarity) to get the huge bonuses to damage they offer. After that, there's a few key feral talents to pick up, but you should be close to a good spec.
Then regear to stats Gyfford suggested. Agi, str, stam, AP, and crit rating (although agi is the best stat for kitties and stam is almost definitely second for soloing). A little intellect and spirit is good, but your friend has quite a lot of it.
Third would be the change in style. With the spec I suggested, pounce-FFF-mangle-shred would be a terrific opener, especially if your friend has a mod such as roguewatch which allows you to see your energy ticks (timing late into a tick allows you to have more energy faster). Once you get omen of clarity, you could even get lucky and get a second shred in. With that openner, mobs usually dont survive a ferocious bite once I get 5 CP's (picking up primal fury, a must-have anyway, could easily mean that after the openner, you FB and mob's dead).

Even though survivability is a bit lower in cat form, if you dont take many hits your health will be more than fine, and it's tremendously faster than the cast->bear concept.

I'm no expert and the build skribs has posted will give her mangle which I don't have yet. What I am doing at 37 is in cat form stealth, get behind target, pounce, shred, faerie fire, rake, 1 or 2 claws and bite to finish. More then one mob, caster form and regrowth, bear, enrage, charge, demoralizing roar, then swipe until all dead. I rarely use casting spells, moonfire to take down runners and healing and whenever I need roots, I have natures grasp.

Mermic, rake loses power as you level. At your level it may still be all right, but by the time you hit 50 you can pretty much take it off your action bar.

Of course if she actually likes casting over feral melee, she may want to repec full Balance so she can have her Moonkin form.

If she's interested. Here's a good post about leveling Moonkin. linkie!
It's part of the "Balance One-Stop Shop" on the wow forums.

Thanks Skribs, will try a few mobs tonight without rake. Things have been really easy since getting pounce, I usually get a shred, faerie fire and rake in while the mob is stunned and with Primal Fury it doesn't take long to get 5 combo points. Must admit mobs have been lower in level, I was questing in Desolace, so most around level 32-35.

Everyone's already given you really good answers, but I have a few questions.
Its awesome that you're trying to help her level and such, but what spec does she want to be? "she said she's feral and doesn't like healing" but she casts a lot. Do you know which one she wants to be, feral or balance? I'd also suggest she read into the class a bit to better understand it.

also, what does she want to do raid wise? does she plan on being a boomkin? If its just a matter of leveling her, I'd say go feral. But from what you said, it sounds like she should go balance. Also, maybe direct her here? I learned a lot about leveling and how to play cat form better for pve, as well as lots of awesome tanking tips. Even if its not her spec, it might be useful if she takes some time studying and reading about druids in general, and seeing other people's questions and answers =] good luck!!
