Best Class / Worst ClassFollow

I think we are one of the best classes to run instances for farming status

However - I have real trouble with P.Running guildies. I find that if they pull agro - they die.

1. I can't heal them
2. The only attacks are Fire Blast/Ice lance. (because if they were in AE range - they'd be agro-ing me anyway)
3. The Line Of Sight issues

I ran some guildies through SM and they died a few times. They were just grateful to get the run-through, but I wanted to know if anyone else noticed this?

You should just run around spamming rank 1 AE. Make sure you hit everything that may agro you teammates, and make sure they don't touch the mobs or heal you until you switch to max rank and start killing for real.

Try running someone through as a warrior ...

I think any class who can't heal will have the same issues with running someone through instances.

The best is to make sure they stay far enough back, and you pew as fast as possible.

Honestly, I think a Paladin is the best class to farm instances. They have 0 worries - armor, AoE (not as good as mage, but enough for farming), bubble/heal, and they can rez lowbies that you are taking through.

Those are all just conveniences though. Mages are awesome for farming too.

Here is something I just posted on the main Forum page:

Quote:
An important note on running lowbies through instances - tell them to do abosultely NOTHING. If you are gathering up mobs, and they do 1 heal, or 1 hit, or cast some spell, then they might aggro mobs and die immediately (30-50 elite mobs pounding on a lowbie = instant death). I don't know how many times I've had to rez lowbies that I'm running through because they want to help.

Also, if they want to watch you kill a million mobs at once, tell them to wait in one spot. Then, you go gather up mobs and bring them in front of the lowbie. If the lowbie tries to follow you around, they may aggro some ranged mob (since that mob will not be running after you in melee range)...and die.

These will make the instance much more fun. If your lvl 70 can rez, then it's not too bad. If you can't, then it's annoying to wait for the corpse run.

Oh, one last tip would be to have the lowbie take off armor. So if they die, they don't lose durability. Not a big deal, but just a tip. That may also be enough reminder to them that they need to stay out of the fight.

I hope that helps.

If people know how to get boosted, all of these issues will be non-issues.

I have a couple of friends that know exactly what to do, they don't pull aggro anywhere, I can pull most of wailing caverns without them drawing aggro for one second.

People that pull stuff within 5 seconds just aren't used to boosts, or think that all the effort has to come from the person boosting.

I spam rank 1 AE all the time, keep spellstrike set up, molten armor, and most importantly, the lightning capacitor. All this stuff together makes you able to run both RFC and WC in a single, very long pull. Scarlet monastery still requires like 2-5 pulls depending on which one you're doing.

Haha, I don't have any of that stuff. I'm only 63 and running around in my first set of outland greens....

Thanks though.

Personally - the best farming is with a Mage and Tank. I have farmed SM with me and a high lvl Pally - They run around agroing everything - I Blizz. Rinse and repeat.

I was just wondering if other people noticed this problem as a mage. Solo - I'm fine. It just freaked me out. Herod (I think that's how you spell it.) - they opened the door and walked in. I strolled over (I'm drinking when they open it) - all of a sudden they are dead and I'm trying to tell them not to Rez/Run cause they will miss the drops.

Then Herod's buddys come streaming in - I AE 1x and kill them all - the dead don't get any of the Grey mats. Silk drops like 50% and that's worth a lot to a lower toon.

Thanks

That is what happens when they don't know how to get boosted. All you need to do is explain the rules of being boosted to them BEFORE you go in the instance. If they listen and obey, then you won't have any problems. If they don't listen and die...it happens.

It's not a mage issue. The same thing happens with every class. The issue is the people you are boosting.

Oh, you can also set Master Loot if you are worried that they will be spirit running when you kill bosses. That way, you can always give them the appropriate loot.

I run players through SM all the time.

I don't bother with AE Rank 1, I find the highest rank to be fine. I can do SM Armory in under 10 minutes, so it works for me.

What I do is set it to FFA looting, let them follow at the appropriate distance (quite far away, but in sight), gather everything up using AE Rank... 8? And then once they're all together, I Blast Wave, Dragon's Breath, Frost Nova, Flamestrike, and then AE spam until they die.

I'm a variation of the old 10/48/3 spec, with Blazing Speed for things like this.

Once you get used to it, it's really really easy. Practice in SM Armory, my recommendations are-- the most melee mobs are there. You can take all the mobs in Armory in 3 pulls if you're really good, 4 pulls if you're good. Not counting Herod, of course. I can't handle 3 pulls yet, 4 pulls is my number.

As far as run throughs go, I specifically tell whoever I run through to wait outside the room. Then, it's grab everyone I can, get over so that the guy getting said run through is in range for the XP, and let loose with Frost Nova. All you have to do is get a little bit of damage in, and there will be no aggro issues. If they die, well, that's the price they pay for either 1) You not gathering up every mob, or 2) Them being jackasses and attacking.

Personally i think mages are best for farming, but disc/holy priests are best for running lowbies through. They just cast bubble and holy nova, not so effective if your running 40-50 instances but great for the 20-30 ones.

Holy Nova is a big mana drain and causes no threat other than as a "hostile action" to put them on the aggro lists at 0 threat.

Prot pally FTW. its a pain to loot 100 mobs that are stacked on each other though.
