BG gear pvp?Follow

#1 Mar 11 2008 at 12:46 PM Rating: Decent
Hi guys.
I've just hit 70 and I wanna get some good gear for pve. I was wondering if the gear you can get with bg points (such as the gladiator set) is worth while if I want to pve, or if its better to collect gear from the instances.

Basically: is the BG gear mainly for pvp or is it good for pve as well?

Thanks in advance :)

It generaly takes less time to get some gear from instances then getting pvp gear. If you want Pvp gear you're looking forward to WEEKS of grinding for honor, gear from instances can be acquired in a few runs and it's even better than Pvp gear (for Pve that is). I'd recommend you to just do some regular instances to get some gear.

And if you're holy make sure to check out the Pre-kara sticky.

To directly answer your question - PvP gear is OK, but PvE gear is generally better.

A lot of it depends on time. If you can spend a lot of time running instances, then focus on PvE gear. If you don't have much time for instances, then split between BG and instance gear. Personally, I only had time to run instances 2x a week (Fri and Sat night). Gearing up with instance drops would've taken FOREVER - especially with my luck (took over 15 SLab runs to get chest piece). However, I can run BGs 3-7x a day, depending on how long they take. So I made a mix of PvP and PvE gear, and it worked just fine. Heck, the Holy Pre-Kara guide even has some PvP gear in it, so it's not all bad. :)

It also depends on spec. Holy and Ret can do well with PvP gear. Prot should stay away from using PvP gear except the Arena mace and 'maybe' the shield. Personally if Prot, I'd just get a Crystalforged Sword anyway and not worry about the higher spell damage Arena mace. The headache of Prot PvP isn't worth it to me, but to each their own.

Get the badge gear, PVP is for PVP, not PVE.

For ret pallies, there's not much good gear pre-Kara from instances. Warrior plate is OK but Ret pallies suffer from low mana if you go pure warrior gear. The best pre-Kara gear is PvP - the Gladiator's Scaled set. It'll tide you over till you get the necessary pieces to get your T4 or higher sets.

Thanks guys, that made things clearer for me.

And I know what you mean YJMark, I've run Shadow Lab and Steamvaults like a thousand times and the chest and helmet never drop! It's real annoying.
