Define "bad". Slower? Yes. Less survivability (at least indoors)? Yes. Better healing, thus more potential to instance as a healer? Yes.

Depends what you want. Feral will get you up faster, though. And once you hit 50 and get Mangle, man, it's tough to want to change. Damage goes way up with that; a lot more than with some Treants with a cooldown.

Yeah, not going to be as much burst dps as you're use to, but instead of bandaging/potions/vanish, we have in combat heals, tank form, runaway form. DPS will be a bit behind the model it's created after.

It's a all in one class, all are great, but missing certian things the main class has. In my opinion anyway.

As LockeColeMA said after Mangle I noticed it got faster also.

Oh and balance for me was a horrible idea, I belive I was lv 40. I respec'd after day 1. After 2 mobs I was OOM, only because I did not let the thorns and DoTs to kill the mob. Took to long for me :/ My roots kept breaking leaving me to sit there swinging for white damage on the mob, while he wailed away. Moonkin form armor was very nice, but I had low stam, so I kept pop'n out to heal, wasting more mana.

I ended up drinking after almost every 2 or 3 mobs.

Some people like it, but some don't. I just posted a 'roots keep breaking' post, where a few ppl agree'd that OOM was going to happen since we don't really have mp5, only spirit to rely on.

I don't think it's ever a bad idea to level in the spec that appeals to you. It's a game, not a job. Fun > efficiency.

I would actually wait until level 43 to respec (and back if you don't care for it) and pick up 3/3 Dreamstate as that will help with mana issues. In the mean time I would spend the intervening levels picking up whatever casting gear I could, lots of Int, mp5 if you can get it, spi/sta. Don't worry about leather vs cloth, but you might consider working on your weapon skills now as they actually become somewhat useful when you are in moonkin form. Lastly, I'm leveling both a feral druid and a balance druid right now and they are miles apart play style wise, so there will be a learning curve and you will probably spend some time as an Oomkin before you figure out how to be a Boomkin. Good luck and good hunting.

I can't compare feral to balance, as I've been levelling my druid as balance from day one. Most good points here have been made already. Personally, I love the balance play style. Survivability isn't bad at all. You can heal yourself if things get bad, but due to the large armor boost in moonkin form I don't feel a lot of need to do that. Dreamstate is a great mana saver, and with decent gear I find that I can almost keep going till the innervate cooldown is over again. Another good thing for later levels to get that mana flowing is to invest a bit in the resto tree till you hit intensity. It allows part of your mana regen to continue while casting. I got there by putting 5 points in improved mark of the wild (a no brainer IMHO) and naturalist. The latter is debatable in it's usefulness for a balance specced druid, but you'll be meleeing from time to time in moonkin form to get that mana proc.

I respecced balance at 40 and had a lot of fun. Currently at 51 I can solo all kinds of stuff with very little resting. I do however have alot of spirit and int which helps. Another thing that helps is to learn your spell rotations and timings. Usually I will open with starfire at full range since it has the longest casting cost then moonfire, swarm and then root. Back up a few and wait a couple seconds for root to wear off. Reapply moonfire, IS and root, rest some more. Now the mob is dead. You can keep this up usually forever if you just use innervate whenever your mana is out. I also find that as balance I can take out regular mobs 5-6 levels higher then me.

is 2 shotting a mob of your level a bad idea...i don't think so!

been balance since early levels, i respecced feral at 44 to see what the hype was about and it jsut didnt work for me.

maybe it was becuase i didn't want to work for me i dunno, but mobs took a lot longer to kill and i found my self having to swap out of cat form into caster to heal myself

the answer to this Q is the same to all the Q's of this nature.....Level as what makes you like the class, not what other say is good.

I was like the OP- I started off Feral, and put my Druid aside for several months after hitting 30-something because it just didn't seem interesting. I started chatting to some guildies who are Balance, and one of them has only played Moonkin since she started the character, and loves it. I picked it up again recently, and went to 40, still not really feeling a great connection with it. I switched to Moonkin and loved the difference. I wasn't just doing a glorified cat form, sneak in, slash, slash, slash, sneak to next mob, grab, bear form, tank 2, kill 1, cat form, slash, slash, sneak out.... I was a caster who could take a spanking. It's probably just a mind thing, but it was fun for me. Don't take that as "feral sux, roll boomkin lolz". Everyone needs to find their play style.

By the way, Malesar is now 64 and still growing strong. Poor Steelbelly gets dusted off for farming and the rare occasion someone needs a huntard to DPS. Smiley: sly

After leveling a feral druid to 50, then a hyrbrid resto till 67 or so i Decided it was time to try the third tree. Moonkin form is fun, yes at lower levels mana is a problem but with dreamstate they start to go away. I got to 56 the other day and now have Dreamstate and Intesity and so have 76mp5 atm, My 70 resto is only at 105.. so you can keep your mana up. With the 400% armor and wonderful aura they can survive for a long time.
