LVL 42 Fire/Arc Newbie MageFollow

#1 Mar 10 2008 at 11:57 AM Rating: Decent
Let me preface by saying that I've read all the sticky's.

I'm pretty set on on a Fire/Arc build. Although, if you check out my profile you'll notice i've got a few in Frost as well. Which brings me to the subject of my post. What do some of you mage veterans think of my build so far? Any recommendations?

I play on a PvP server. That being said I do a lot of quests/grinding in order to level faster. Though I do enjoy blasting any horde that I happen to stumble across! I use the titanpanel add-on, but haven't used any macros as of yet. Any recommendation of good macros-for-mages?

Obviously I need to get some trinkets and work on my professions. From the looks of some of the other threads I'll probably drop one of my current profs (most likely herb) in favor a tailoring.

Anyway, any recommendations from some vets would be appreciated...

First we'll start with the build. By spreading your points out that much your actually lowering your ability to quest/kill faster. Arcane is pretty usless untill much higher lvls (see: 70) when you go 40/21/0. Your missing out on LOTS of fire damage putting those 12 points in arcane. Going full frost will slow down your kill rate but up your ability to survive during bad pulls or running into horde.

About professions if you want to drop one now drop alch. If you drop herbs then you've just lost your only way to make some gold. Yes the tailoring epics are great.. but instead just make a bank alt on your server and start sending all your cloth there. Give him 4 16 slot bags and 2 more bags in the bank and fill them up while you level. Then when you get closer to 70 and have the gold saved up for your first flyer you can drop one of the 2 and speed lvl tailoring.

As far as macros go while leveling there really isn't any excpet focus sheep macros for instances.

A few tips, you could probably get more damage out of a build that went deeper in fire instead of splitting with arcane so early.

As for the dropping professions, keep herbalism, amazing money and always have materials for potions/elixirs is a god send. I would drop alchemy, you can't level it without herbing/buying herbs.

I think generally with a lot of classes it's not a bad idea to stick with your primary tree up to your 41 point talent before branching out. My mage is level 48 and every talent point is in fire. I'm loving it so far, no issues with questing.

I have tailoring/herbalism on her and I would most definitely not drop herbalism if I were you. It allows me to pay for my tailoring without siphoning cash off my main.

Edited to say, while we're talking professions, I notice you haven't got any secondary ones. Have you got another character sending you fish? If not I'd suggest leveling up fishing/cooking (do them together). The stamina and MP5 buffs are very nice for a mage, and fishing is a good source of extra cash as well.

Thanks for all the advice, looks like I'll be making a trip to the trainer paying to unlearn my talents for the third time...

There will be plenty more where that came from. Enjoy it while it's cheap!

Just wanted to add that I love the pure fire spec at level 45. Soloing is not a problem, and outside of the rouge encoutners I haven't had too many issues with pvp. The damage when specced fire is amazing. At this point I'm aiming for the classic 2/48/11 build...

This is pretty great advice. I'm also a newbie mage, just hit 40 last night, and I have been spreading my talents between fire and arcane as well. I don't have any in frost. My plan was to at least get to POM then stack the rest into fire for awhile, but it sounds like I should be sticking everything into fire for now, then branching into arcane later. Oh well, not time like the present for a respec.

My husband and I are both leveling mages, and we are constantly trying to one up each other. :)
