Grabbing aggroFollow

hi All

I have started an alt pally tank, I've enjoyed it so much I seemed to be ignoring my main.

However the last couple of times I have run instances i have had a real problem keeping aggro. Before I start tanking, I ask everybody to let me get in a couple of hits before they attack: which is rarely acted on. I seem to be unlucky enough to be grouped with hunters who don't turn off their pets taunt, and fury warriors who charge in before I can drag my **** over to the mobs.

My question is what is the best sequence for grabbing threat quickly; I don't have a problem keeping aggro if I have a couple of seconds. Here's a link if you need it, thanks.

There was a decent discussion on it a while back:

Basically, open with a judgement of righteousness helps to get that initial first threat.

I'm no prot pally expert but I've dabbled in it and I have a few good prot pally friends I've shared notes with. Basically if you have 200 +spell damage and open up with a damage judgement like Judgement of Command, Vengeance or Rightenousness, then Consecrate like hell while keeping Seal of Vengeance and Holy Shield up, you'll hold aggro fine. Everyone still needs to give you a 5-Mississippi for aggro to stick but after that you'll be ok.

well first off avengers shield for pulling is THE **** when you can get it. it will help a ton with aggro on pulls.
personally i think you should have capped off improved holy shield but thats just me.
for pulling multiple mobs, mark the first mob to kill. now pull and immediately use concecration. make sure ret. aura is up. judge SoRighteousness on the mob you marked and put it immediately back up. and of course keep holy shield up at all times. personally i use 2-3 consecrations per trash pull and usually mages will AoE the mobs down.
im sure you know all this, keep concecrate up, judge righteousness for some spike threat then just auto attack, keep holy shield up (always), etc etc. a lot of pallies dont use ret aura so that might be something which will help.
mabye someone else will have a better idea. but we cant help you much if you dont give us more of an idea about your sequence.

For good advice on straight forward threat generation, the link zebug posted is great, that was a few weeks ago.

Addressing the OTHER issue in your post... Start assuming you're going to run into bad pulls where the Warrior is charging in before you even reach the mob or the Mage starts winding up a Pyroblast without telling you which target he's taking while you're OOM and drinking infront of him. These are important things to learn to deal with because they have the STRONG potential to wipe a group and they WILL happen.

What's been getting on my nerves lately is when I need to pull trash back to the group to fight them (because of patrols, or special abilities) and either a Warrior charages in and stuns them while I'm backing them up, or a Rogue starts stun-locking them. Say hello to the patrol! Now it's gone from a nice easy pull to me Consecrating to hold onto 4-5 mobs unless we've got a smart CCer (not regular instances either mind you) and praying that the healer's had their cup of coffee for the day.

Ah, yes that would have been helpful. Well if an individual mob I judge crusader, cast righteousness, holy shield and judge righteousness when I can. I always have blessing of sanctuary and have an aura of retribution if there's a lot of dpsers in the party. If I have multiple mobs I spam consecrate, through the fight.
