Starting up a priestly alt, and plan to do a lot of instance-healing on the way up. Which means, yes, leveling as Disc/Holy. :x

And I figure that, well, if I'm going to be doing a lot of party work, I should at least be good at it. What addons do the local healers find useful?

Target-of-target sounds like it would be good, and probably not... too hard to find, but beyond that I'm not really sure. Do Priests have any equivalent to Necrosis/Cryolysis?

Some nicely positioned focus, ToT and party frames will be essential. Get PitBull if you don't mind a long setup time and X-Perl (booo!) if you do. Other than that, I don't know of any specifically Priest-related levelling AddOns. Make sure you have a nice bar AddOn and Omen installed for instancing: they're not required but they help.

Grid (with or without Clique)

Personally, I use Grid and put my most used heals on the number keys. I click select the player and press the number key to heal. If you like to mouse heal (like healbot) you can add Clique. Here is a nice article on Grid.

Since Grid is an Ace Addon, WowAceUpdater can install and keep Grid up to date. Grid has additional addons that help it work even better. I have the following loaded(all from WowAceUpdater):

Grid
GridDynamicLayout
GridIndicatorSideIcons
GridManaBars
GridStatusHealer
GridStatusHealingReduced
GridStatusHostileUnit
GridStatusHots
GridStatusIncomingHeals
GridStatusMissingBuffs
GridStatusRaidDebuff

As a Priest, Grid shows me everyone's health and mana. I have a border that shows Agro and damage. The player's health bar turns Red after it goes down some. I am able to indicate missing buffs I need to apply, player's pets, disease or magic I need to dispell, when I am clearcasting, who has renew or PW:Sheild, who's out of range, and who my PoM has bounced to. It can show you an amazing amount of information if you take the time to customize it.

If Grid isn't for you, check out Healbot or Decursive.

Beyond that, be sure you use a Focus Macro for Shackling Undead (trained at level 20).

Personally,

I have been using Serenity (old version) for quite some time and love it. It is very similar to Necrosis and that is why I like it.

I too would be interested in learning more about addons etc for my priest. Come on peeps, post!

Speaking of priest addons, I remember reading somewhere that there's an addon for healers where instead of showing a party member's health as, say, 9,000/10,000, it instead shows it as -1,000. Has anyone heard of this before, and if so, can you tell me what it's called/where to find it?

Thanks.

I believe if you use PitBull for the unit frames, you can switch it to show health and/or mana as deficits.

And nobody mentioned Quartz?

I'm pretty sure Grid shows the deficits by default. And dadanox' link to that article is a good one to read if you decide to try Grid. I've used it raiding with my Pally and I like it.

Healbot does this on a separate bar. My favorite of all that I've tried, not too complicated but still has enough depth to handle most healing jobs. Keeps track of who has what heal on them, what their HP is missing, what your spell will add to them while casting. A simple left click can be flash heal, the right could be greater heal. You just click their bar and it does the targetting and casting for you without switching to view their char if that makes sense. It's pretty easily customizable.

I can target the tank and drop heals on everyone without ever shifting my focus.

If you don't mind using up more memory you could externalize the Libraries. Run WoWAceUpdater from www.wowace.com, mark all installed AddOns and press SHIFT + F12. That'll move all the libraries to your AddOns folder, meaning it only loads each once and as such loads a good deal faster. However, it makes your AddOns folder butt-ugly and confusing...

Yeah, Healbot is wonderful. I have a shodow priest, but it works very well.
I like to be able to dispel myself or someone else, without losing my target. Or, use any other instant-cast.
I also use an add-on called Dr. Damage, which basically adds a tooltip, telling me the total amount of potential damage or healing that can be done with a spell. It calculates things like talents, and other damage modifiers.
Both of these can be downloaded from the Curse.com website.

On top of those, targeting macros are your friend.
This one will keep the focus of any spell, so that you dont loose your current target:

#showtooltip Your Spell Name
/clearfocus [mod:alt]
/focus [target=focus,noexists]
/cast [target=focus] Your Spell Name

Hold ALT while clicking the icon again when the target is dead, and the focus will be reset, otherwise you wont be able to cast it on a new target. I use this macro for Shackle Undead, so I dont have to stop attacking if my spell breaks. Warlocks can use this for Banish or Seduce.
