kind of a noob question. How do I get my armor up?Follow

#1 Mar 08 2008 at 11:58 AM Rating: Decent
I believe armor value of equipment contributes to bear armor right? How does that work exactly? I want to be a tank. I think my tanking skills are decent. The hard part right now is finding instances. The server is kind of barren sometimes. I've had a couple guild runs thru BF and Ramps, but haven't ran much else. And those had a couple 70's, so I wasn't really tanking much. My armor at level 69 is only equal to my level 70 Shaman's armor! It's just horrible. My health and dodge rating aren't too bad. But my armor value is bad.

Try getting the Heavy clefthoof set, they have large armor values on them.

Don't forget that Agility adds too armor so 'of the monkey' is excellent for tanking.

http://www.gurgleblaster.net/emmerald/Bear_Mitigation/Head.html

Is a good site for researching tanking gear.

Dont forget that in Dire Bear form armor is increased by 400% So items with just a small armor value are well worth equiping.

Braxxis' staff of slumber has 550 armor
Smoking heart of the mountain has 150
Mok'nathal clan ring has 180

All these add up.

For pure tanking gear anything thats not agility and stamina could be gimping your character. (not forgetting the +155 defence rating to be crit immune (or resilience if you prefer))

Currently on my Lvl 64 Druid I have:

12728 Armor = 62.16% DR
Dodge at 33.26%
Health at 12112

Emmerald's list is all you need (I prefer this format to what's linked above, but they're both the same. It has items from quests, instances, and craftables so you should be able to gear up well. Simply pick the items you want to work towards them.

Emmerald's new list is actually at www.emmerald.net. The old list was never updated for 2.3. The post actodd linked has a few choices for each slot pre-Kara, so you can decide if you want to PvP, quest, run instances, or just buy gear.

12k health. Check!
26% dodge. Check!
24k armor. Ch-WHAT?! Crap, man.

I think I've got about 16k armor in my current tank gear. Will probably help when/if I get The Warden and that armor trinket from the Karazhan quest. Maybe spend a little cash on the blue BOE trinket.

The badge of tenacity (I'm guessing thats what you mean) has 308 armor. This means you'll get just over 1200 armor in dire bear form, so I'm going to have to go with yes, it will help you. I found it for 800g on the AH, took me about two weeks checking regularly. The normal price on my server is 1200g.

Yeah, Badge of Tenacity, that's the one. It's also very expensive on my server, though a bit cheaper than on yours, apparently. Usually sells for around 500-600g here.

I just realized that I'm only almost Revered with Cenarion Expedition and it appears I've run out of quests to do that'll net me reputation with them. Someone please hold me and tell me that it's not really bad doing Steam Vaults a hundred times.

Actually, it's +400%, for a total of 5.5x listed armor w/ 3/3 Thick Hide. All three pieces of heavy clefthoof help a lot, and Braxxis Staff of Slumber. If you have that, Mazra, it has a little more armor than Earthwarden.

I can manage ~27k-28k just using items outside of 10 man raids+ (minus the violet signet)but I imagine for OT you'd only need about 24-25k.

Oh and Mazra - if you have a lot of surplus change - just buy coilfang armaments.

100 = 7.5k rep but on most servers that'll also be about 1000g. Probably easier to grind it out and do sp-heroic every day (being the most popular heroic).

yeah, when I said just over 1200 armor, I forgot to mention that it was just over 1200 EXTRA armor after factoring in the orginal armor amount. and I didn't do the .5 out of laziness :p

/s Doing steamvaults 100 times won't be too bad.

Actually it hasn't been so far. Getting groups isn't too difficult because CE is a very popular faction to grind and it has some needeed drops by many classes.

Plus it's a relatively simple instance. Once you get a routine down, you should be able to run through in 60-75 minutes.

One tip, I created this macro for the final boss

/p TANK
/y TANK
/RW TANK

And click it whenever he links with a water tank. It comes in handy.

Don't really mind the instance, unless the party insists that I mark the targets.

I cannot successfully tank 3-4 mobs and still manage to update marks during combat. I just can't.

Mazra, you can go into the interface and key bind your raid markers, this helps a ton when tanking and marking.

Also, you can skip half the instance in SV if you have a good group. After the 1st 3 pulls, and killing the bog lord take the right and hug the wall.Being very careful you can clear you way across to the 1st boss, you need to only kill a few naga groups and 1 elemental pat. .

After the 1st boss is down, you can swim up the river to a little ramp coming out near the 2nd boss, 3 pulls to his room.. then clear the non elite gnomes, down him and double back.. you now only have to clear the area outside the last boss and the mobs in his room and your done..

After a few runs it is pretty easy, and made my grind a lot faster..

Edit- should point out you seem to make more rep-doing this on repeat than clearing the run..Also when doing Heroic runs or heroic daily quests you can knock it out in 30 min's with a group who know the path.

28k outside of 10mans? I imagine you are talking about heroic/badge loot, which aside from some of the much easier ones, is harder on the tank/healer than kara is?

I have everything "recommended" outside of heroic/kara aside from a badge of tenacity and armor rings, and I am struggling to break 22k. If I make a couple of concessions for other stats (Belt of the raven lord instead of manimal's cinch, Bark Chip Boots instead of Clefthoof boots) I am just over 20k armor. Add in a ~180 armor ring (non heroic durnholde) and a badge of tenacity, and another ~500 from mechanar cape if the damn thing would drop, and I would be at around high 22k-low 24k.. 28k I don't see happening short of badge/kara loot.

Did not know this. Thanks.

Time to put those 18 G-buttons to use.

I'm wearing nothing from 10 mans OR badge loot (though I'm in Kara..no tanking drops yet..) and I sit at 26k armor...The only slots I could upgrade that give LESS armor is upgrading from Braxxis to Earthwarden.

Since you didn't post your armory and your name isn't the name of a druid, I can't look and see how you are doing that, but I imagine it is a combination of PvP gear (more time consuming than badge loot), Badge of Tenacity (a lot of grinding money, or a little luck), or a lack of stats elsewhere.
