Breaking roots fast :/Follow

#1 Mar 08 2008 at 9:50 AM Rating: Good
Hi guys. I was getting a bit bored with kitty leveling. Had a N.Elf feral Druid lv 40, and my Tauren now, so kitty killing was getting a bit old to me. Sooo, I decided to change to boomkin for the fun of it.... however my roots are not holding the mob for long :/ 1 or 2 casts and the mob come running at me.

I've checked the stickies, and the O.boards for a nice spell rotation for boomkin leveling, and have not found anything like that. Any suggestions would be great, or if there's a good leveling guide for Moonkin that'd be great also.

So far I've only found dps spreadsheets, armor breakdowns, and talent builds.

I just recently respecced to Boomkin (50), and seem to be going OOM after like 3 mobs...and I'm not even killing fast. It seems like I need a good spell rotation as well.

I waited until 70 to go Boomkin because of all the warnings. Everyone I asked said you go OOM to fast and the itemization is just crap for us. While it is fun you will run out of mana a lot and will thus be drinking a lot. A spell rotation I use is Roots - Insect Swarm - Starfire until roots break - moonfire - wrath spam. Granted I haven't been a Moonkin for too long but this seems to be working. Moonfire spam will kill faster but you will go OOM much quicker.

Glad I'm not the only one going OOMkin fast:/ I died 3 times inside a building in WPL. No root, all my trents attacked one mob leaving two on me... I died Smiley: blush, 53 levels w/o one death... respec and died 3 times so far XD.

After trying Moonkin I now like being about to pop out of stealth kill, kill, kill, then go back into stealth and regroup... instead of being a giant bird out in the open Smiley: wink

Meh, no threat reduction moves, no mana regen methods except for chance on hitting the mob... Warlocks can tap, Mages can make drinks and mana stones.

I'm on my way back to TB to respec to Feral lol. I think next time if I want to magic kill stuff I'll reroll a mage again =) Nothing wrong with boomkin, it was fun, the armor was ok.. but not being able to heal yourself in form sucked, and rooting only working outdoors got me- Blizzard not everything is outdoors in WoW... and I've seen roots grow in basements before =P.

Oh well, GL man.

*edit* Thanks Tulzscha. I was pretty much doing that too. Without the +mp regen stuff the outlands have (and gems) I definatly went OOMkin fast. I think maybe I'll try it again after I hit 70. Maybe get some BG epics or something.

Agreed, I'm really bummed because I wanted to try something new with my druid, and I'm not much to play at 70 as much (I don't really enjoy the endgame, more or less just leveling).

Boomkin is fun, but just can't spell Boomkin without OOM. :(. Oh well, with Feral maybe I can get to the outlands super fast, and have fun again.

I haven't gained Moonkin form yet, but I am leveling a balance druid. My advice is to moonfire/insect swarm the mob, cast entangling roots then wait and reapply the above. Is it fast, not really, but it does seem to work and not break the roots against yellow mobs. Those times when I am fighting green mobs I find that I can't seem to break roots even when I try. As for running out of mana, well the way I pick items goes: Int, Int, Int, either Spi or Sta, more Int, then anything else, including the armor value of the item. Don't be afraid to wear cloth if you can get better stats from it.

All of that said, leveling Balance is very different than leveling Feral, so be careful not to have kitty expectations of how a fight will go when your trying to spell a mob to death.

i do this a lot on my lvl 37 balance druid when i am short on mana, druid dots ftw

it works in pvp aswell if you are fighting a mage or antoher class with lowish hp.

I'm a 49 balance druid right now and I only go OOM if I have more than 3 mobs at a time due to a bad pull or bad repop.

My usual spell rotation is this.

Once I'm at max distance

Starfire
Roots
Insect Swarm
Moonfire

Assuming it doesn't break, I usually follow up with a starfire and dependent on how much life is left on the mob, I refresh Insect swarm and let it die before it reaches me.

If Roots does break for whatever reason, I usually keep Moonfire and Insect Swarm on the mob and whack away with the staff.

Plus I usually Innervate at around 1k mana near the end of a fight so by the next set I'm full. My rotation takes a little longer than massive spamming of spells but usually I can have enough mana to survive through the cooldown of innervate.

With my current gear I have about 4k mana with Mark of the Wild buff, with about +120 spell damage and +130 healing.

Look me up at the armory as Kusanami. I'll be the 49 horde druid on Elune.

thats one of the two main problems with boomkin at sub-60 levels; you dont really have the full talent spec to support the playstyle yet. combined with the other main problem, lack of gear, moonkin truly is oomkin during those stages.

i can see why people want to level as moonkin, but i personally couldnt do it until outland greens become available.

my cast rotation at 38 is;

Starfire
moonfire
insect swarm
roots
wrath spam ftl
my wraths tend not to break roots as easy as moonfire, seems it's like when your are nova'd and a mage can stand there for ever and spam you with frost bolts and it not break.

i can usually get the roots off b4 the mob gets to me as star or moonifre will usually crit, and this rotation will last me 7-8 mobs b4 i drink (2.9K mana)
saying that i dinged 38 last ntie and got a new rank of wrath so it may last me less time i dunno.

also im guessing the dot damage from roots, swarm and roots will not be such a big dmg factor at higher levels, but atm i can take a 38-40 mob down from 60% hp with the dots, its insane.
