Profession blues... looking for a way out.Follow

My warrior is currently 55 almost 56 and well to be honest... my mining is low... and my blacksmithing is seriously hurting.

I just got to where I can mine Dark Iron... but I am passing so many thorium veins that I get frustrated at the thought that I am going to be in outlands where I will end up the same as my hunter... unable to do any of my professions and relying heavly on drops to make my money.

Anyone got some advice that might help? I have heard Blacksmithing is a serious sink hole for money if you can't get your own mats.

Thank you.

Try going back and mine more veins until you can mine thorium?

If you can't mine Thorium yet, don't sweat it. Just focus on getting to lvl 60 and getting your epic mount. Now, you can mine MUCH more efficiently.

Go to Tanaris, run laps and mine Mithril until you can mine Thorium.

Then, go to Burning Steppes or EPL, run laps and mine Thorium and Rich Thorium.

You will be able to do this in a short amount of time with your epic mount. Then, go back to Outland and mine whenever you come across a node while questing. You should make an effort to mine every ore you come across so that you don't fall too far behind. If you have to kill a few mobs to get to it - go kill those few mobs.

As for BS.........that is a personal decision you need to make. If you want to keep it up, then you will have to farm more ore. If you don't mind spending time doing this, then go for it. You can make some good armor for yourself. Nothing super duper, but you get some neat stuff. Also, make sure to keep your level up so that you can use the keys to open chests in instances.

Another option, if you want, is to drop BS for Enchanting. You can level enchanting to 300 pretty fast, and then DE all your Outland quest rewards and drops (the ones you don't use) for mats. Use those mats to level your enchanting further, and sell the leftovers. Between enchanting and mining, you will make a silly amount of money.

That sounds like an idea. I was originally thinking I could just smelt my Dark Iron ore and get it up to 245 that way... but im sitting at 233 I think and I have to find the Dark Iron veins just to ensure a level but then I can't even smith the stuff so that was frustrating. Just looked up what I had to do to get that... That isn't gonna happen for a while. I don't think my guild will want to run BRS to help me get that though I guess I won't know until I ask.

Smelting doesn't give skill after level 140.

What? didn't know that. that sucks. I guess it had been a long time of mining before I actually tried to smelt that I didn't realize that fact. I mined my way from 130-200 or so before even trying to smelt it... xD

plus you have to travel rather deep into BRD to smelt dark iron, and its 8 ore per bar of dark iron, so youd have to carry a LOT of ore.

dark iron really just isnt practical. take the above advice; get to 60, get the epic mount, then just spend a day or three skilling up mining. hammer out a lot of mithril till you can get thorium, and then just ride that up to fel iron.

also, if you have the zone to yourself, you can make a loop of about 5-6 nodes and keep skilling up from the same ones; they reset after so long, or perhaps the game forgets that you already skilled up...

the downside being that you won't collect any ore doing it that way, of course.

All you really need to do is go back and mine some mithril for a while until you level up to where you want to be. Sure it might not seem like a good idea for you, going back where you won't be questing, but it means u can focus on the mining.

Run laps of the badlands for mithril and you will come across a large amount of it. Also because of your level, you won't have any problem killing the mobs that you find that will speed it up any more.

I'm 375 mining and I still occasionally go to the badlands to do laps for mith, just to make a bit of cash on the side.

As for the advice to get your epic first, then go mining, it is a great idea but it sounds like you won't be able to muster the money in the first place for a long time. If that is the case, mine mith and SELL (don't blacksmith) until you can afford your mount, then keep going.

Blacksmithing is a massive sinkhole, in my opinion. Sure the very end (375) stuff can be useful, but most of the bop stuff can be replaced with something similar and everything else you can get a blacksmith to create for you.

I leveled blacksmithing to lvl 275 and decided it just wasn't worth my while continuing to level it, as it was going to cost me way too much (and I already wasted so much) and swapped out for enchanting.

Enchanting cost a bit to level up (bought most of the mats from the money I made from mining), but once you reach lvl 225 you can disenchant every green in outlands, and at 300 you can disenchant the blues.

You either have the choice there of selling all your mats, or you can use them to continue to level enchanting (which is what I chose to do). Being able to enchant yourself is pretty good for a warrior, and if you do it as you level you will normally be ahead of the rest gear wise.

So basically I recommend to drop blacksmithing, so you can make pure profit with everything you mine. Then pickup another profession - your choice. I would recommend either enchanting, engineering or skinning (enchanting for reasons already said, engineering for the end-game goggle and stuff u can make for warriors, skinning for more money though it will take a bit of effort to lvl to where you are fighting).

Hope this helps.

I just went back and forth from the yeti cave in Hillsbrand and the Ogre caves and some other places in Alterac when I was farming Mithril/skill. You also pick up alot of Iron during these laps, and if Iron deposits aren't green to you, at least you'll have a money maker (Iron prices are 2x Mithril on my server... don't ask me why).

It does seem Tanaris is sort of handy to just ride 'round though. Maybe go for that.

Thanks guys! I've made my laps around all the places as now I can get thorium, so I have been running around places like Burning steppes, winterspring and badlands (which seems to have a nice variety) and I am 5 away from 300. Gonna make 1 more trip through them to get it tonight and it's back to outland with the ability to mine the good stuff.

Also I scraped some of my Hunters Epic flier money to fund my wife's mount quest and my epic ground mount and now we are rollin big on our 200% movement.

I think I am gonna dump BS as I don't want to have to farm Iron forever and probably will pick up enchanting as you all recommended. This should help me with the money issue.

(Time to start using the AH... Made the mistake yesterday cause I was tired and sold a BoE blue at a vendor =S damn I screwed that one away.)
