I have a guildmate that had a "different" set of gear than I'm used to for a Ret pally. You can see for yourself at:

My first impression was that it's not favorable for Ret, unless I'm missing something or there's an aspect to ret I didn't know about. Can anyone shed some light on this? And would you recommend him changing his gear/talents or staying the same?

yeah, i can't see armory at the moment, but if he's stacking spell damage and has low AP/crit he's one of the many many rets that gie ret a bad name.
2 possible remedies would be either spec shockadin which stacks spell damage or completely re-gear. the ret spec only works well by stacking AP and getting about 25% melee crit. he can read my guide for sme ideas of where to get gear.
