I've been reading and posting on this forum since I started playing wow and I'm pretty stoked that I've just hit 69!

I've never been in a raid and i'm looking forward to it. I was hoping that all you masters of magery could take a look at my spec and my gear and tell me if I'm on the right track for 70 instances and Kara. I am not interested in PVP, only PvE. I just want to crank out the most damage possible, in instance and raid settings.

Big props to all of you! You all have been a huge part of my enjoyment of this game. Is there any other advice that ay benefit me as I turn the big 70?

Thanks.

I am assuming that because you are a 372 tailor that you have two of the 3 spellfire pieces crafted. I am also hoping that you have saved up enough cloth/etc to get the spellstrike pieces made as well. That right there will give you a quick 5-epics that can get your a good way through raiding.

I recommend picking up an upgraded staff (The Bringer of Death sells for about 20-25g on my server). Your spec is great for a better geared (no offense) mage. Before you have around 800+ unbuffed fire damage you will want to supplement some of your lack of damage/mana with arcane. A 40/18/3 can work pretty well to make sure that you have the 3 points in elemental precision and are getting all of the +dmg/+dps talents you can get to help that out.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Oh, and remember, only put blue (rare) gems into an epic!

Quoted because this can't be emphasized enough. There is nothing that will get an application to a serious raid guild denied faster than this, except maybe having no enchants or having gems/enchants that are just awful for your class.

Well, I definately have some work to do on the crafting of my 5 peices of epic. I'll get the staff and change my spec for sure. Thanks for the pointers. I don't know anything about gems, so going with blue (rare) doesn't mean much to me yet. I'll have to do some research. I guess I want to try to max my +hit and then work on spell dmg/crit balance.

Thanks again for the advice. I can't wait to get in game and get to farming on the cloth.

This is a great place to start your learning about them. Most of the basic info you need is there.

Regarding Spec, are we talking the one from greatest mage post..that would be

Arcane (40 points)

2/2 Arcane Subtlety
3/5 Arcane Focus
5/5 Magic Absorption
5/5 Arcane Concentration
3/3 Arcane Impact
2/2 Improved Counterspell
3/3 Arcane Meditation
1/1 Presence of Mind
5/5 Arcane Mind
3/3 Arcane Instability
1/1 Arcane Power
2/2 Spell Power
5/5 Mind Mastery

Fire (18 points)

5/5 Improved Fireball
5/5 Ignite
2/2 Flame Throwing
1/1 Pyroblast
2/2 Burning Soul
3/3 Improved Scorch

Frost (3 points)

3/3 Elemental Precision

Would my rotation still be to scorch X5 fireball x9 scorch x1 fireball x9 repeat?

I'd recommend the post 5 scorches rotation to be Fireball x 8 Scorch x 1 to give yourself a little bit of a safety net so the scorches don't fall off if you have to move or if it gets resisted(you have time to cast another).

So I changed my spec and I have to admit I am very satisfied. My ability to burst has allowed my biggest crit of 3883 this far, and I seem to have more mana throughout grinding.

Thanks for the information. Got two spellcloth in the bag and about 30 some odd more to go to get 5 peices.

What is the best way to get the patterns for spellstrike? I never see them on my server.

the patterns are BoP drops from a couple bosses (I want to say Murmur and the last boss of shattered halls). only tailors can see them drop.

Most of the time it comes down to having the materials for them and finding someone who can craft either the legs or hood and paying them for the use of their nether (about 50g on my server).

Ahh I see. I'll have to get those peices made then. Well I've got the Bringer of Death, I'm up on gems, and I'm on my way to farming motes and making spell cloth.

I'm halfway to 70, so by the time I've got a few pieces crafted I should be 70 and on my way to getting keys and attunement. I can't help but feel that I have just started playing the game for the first time, again.

I'll be searching the forums on add-on's for raiding soon. Thanks again.
