BM Ap or Agi?Follow

#1 Mar 06 2008 at 1:55 PM Rating: Default
I read the stickied post at the top, and couldnt find the anwser to this anywhere.

I am BM spec 41/17/3 with a cat.

1. Does AP help ranged atk damage? ( i think yes )
2. How much AP does it take to give my pet 1 AP?
3. Do most BM spec'd Hunters take AP over AGI if its over-abundant choice in the slot? I.E crystalforged war axe(80ap) VS Terokk's quill (57agi).
4. Does my pet gain More AP from my Agi or from my AP?
5. Would Savagery be the best enchant for a 2H weapon for BM spec? My AP is at 1100 right now, planning on upgrading tonight.

Thanks in advance, these may seem like noobie questions but the gear i am going to quest relies greatly on your anwsers.

1 Agility = 1 AP. 40 Agility = 1% crit, and there's some dodge and armor thrown in.

Basically for enchants and gems stick with AP gems until you start raiding, and in your new shiny epics use agility gems and enchants.

For your comparison, I'd say the war axe is better unless you're SV. You have to remember that the war axe has crit as well. If it did not, it would not be better.

AP until you start hitting the more hardcore 25-man raids.

I haven't got a precise cap for agi vs. AP, nor have I ever seen one with reliable sources. Agi does become better at some point though. I am yet to discover when, of course I'll have to bury myself in maths for a few hours... and we'll see when I do that in a hurry.

You "may" find AP more useful early in your career, but everything I've ever read and experienced says AGI > AP always. Especially for BM. Here is a quote from the official WoW forums, and you can find many like it:

--Quote--
Yes, when I said 1 agi = 3 ap, I meant for itemization.

Basic math behind that statement:

Assuming that 40 ap gives about the same boost as 1% crit (and this holds roughly true for hunters of most specs, as well as other physical DPSers), analyze ap, crit, and agility for hunters.

40 agi = 1% crit and 40 ap.
40 ap = 40 ap. (lol)
40 crit rating =~ 1.82% crit.

since one point of ap is worth half as much on your gear as agility (regarding ilvl of items), and 1% crit and 40ap are approximately equivalent, you can say that 40 agi = 1% crit + 40ap = 80 ap. so, to begin with, 1 agi = 2 ap. You can see this more easily among similar qualities of gem cuts, which are all equal item level.
--end quote--

AP = ranged atk, yes. Terokk's Quill imo over the axe. Pet gains more AP from your AGI. +35 Agi > Sav.

I followed the stickies and went AP until I got 300 tooltip dps and then stacked agility beyond that. Stickies are wonderful, use them, read them.

I was just looking up the answers to some related questions I had yesterday. Found the following on Wowwiki, which may be helpful...

Quote:
Pets receive attribute bonuses depending on their master's stats:

1 RAP gives the pet 0.22 AP and 0.1287 spell damage
1 stamina gives 0.3 stamina
1 resistance gives 0.4 resistance
1 armor gives 0.35 armor

Plus, I assume BoK buffs AGI but not AP (Speaking as someone who's dealt with similar issues with Warrior's Strength vs AP, SBV, etc).

Petopia also has this information.

Petopia wrote:
* Pets get about 30% of the hunter's stamina added to their stamina.
* Pets get about 35% of the hunter's armor added to their armor.
* Pets get about 22% of the hunter's ranged attack power added to their melee attack power.
* Pets get about 12.5% of the hunter's ranged attack power added to their spell damage.
* Pets get about 40% of the hunter's resistances added to their own resistances.

Cheeky's spreadsheet isn't reliable?

The actual answer for agi vs ap is that you want a balance. See the more crit you have the more valuable ap becomes. And the more ap you have the more valuable crit becomes. There is a balancing line, but once you're in 25 man raids, even the first ones your gear will make it so that agility is really the best option. This is due to the massive ap buffs there are, combined with BoK and kill command.

Not unless you've found a record of all the formulas he uses in it.

You're not told why things are the way they are, just that they are. It's like being told: 'God exists' and replying 'Oh, ok!'. I don't buy it.
