When I do instances most groups don't seem to care but I've been told my dps was lacking but they didn't include my pets damage? I'm in half epics/half blues 70 bm hunter. My dps with pet included was only 3% less than a mage in full epics. What is the norm? The way I see it pet damage should be included because the group wouldn't have that additional damage without the hunter present. Thats what he brings to the party. Thoughts?

Specifics? How much DPS were you actually doing?

Download a damage meter and go out and shoot dr. boom for a while and let us know numbers. ;)

General advice is make sure you're not clipping your auto shots. Make sure your pet is on the target as much as possible. Is your gear gemmed? Is it enhanted? Even cheap gems and enchants add up. Check your spec, read the sticky at the top and compare to the standard 41/20/0 build.

Without knowing more info it's hard to give you any kind of useful advice.

This is a no-brainer.

Any good dps meter (like SW Stats) will include pet damage. The funny part is that people running meters that exclude pet damage usually don't realize it because they dont have pets themselves.

When people spam dps meters that omit pet damage, just ask 'hey where's my pet'? They'll likely tell you 'its included' because they think it is. Just tell them its not and show your own numbers.

That's what I did. I got tired of getting bashed on for being low on charts and feeling like... Damn I know I did more than that.

So I DLed SWS stats and now when someone posts their stats and it doesn't have my pet on it I post mine. With the pet as it's own damage bar so they see that even though my number is the same its obvious my pet isn't in their chart.
