I have had my pet boar from the get go. While he is a great tank for my solo adventures, I was wondering about a pet for grouping. (Ramparts etc.) I will be in outland in a few levels (3rd time, different toon), what is a good pure DPS pet?

Ravager.

Also, cats, raptors, bats, birds.

Furthermore, go to http://petopia.brashendeavors.net for almost anything related to pets.

When i first got to outland i ended up getting a ravager , a nice pet for damage but cats and raptors are just as good , its more a personal choice , some hunters still use a boar when grouping , the easiest way is to try out a few different pets to see what does the damage you want and the easiest way is to check out Petopia and select high damage pets , pick one you like and see how it goes...

One thing I noticed with boars is their AI is a little different than other pets. If I have my boar attacking one mob, without me telling him to, he will charge another nearby mob to draw its aggro, then run back to the original mob he was attacking. Great for PVE, sucks in groups when the other mob was CC'd.

My boar will only do this when he is on "DEFENSE" but never does it on "Passive" mode.

Over a long enough timeline a ravager will always do more damage than a cat or a raptor, though the difference isn't massive.

I find this also. very annoying.
I am hoping it will be fixed in a patch one of these days.
I mean, Blizzard have already programmed the pets to stop attacking their target once a freezing trap has gone off. Why should the 'don't attack the frozen mob' rule not apply to the Charge skill as well?

Any of the mailine DPS pets will do, Cat, Raptor, Ravager. Your best bet for a good pet dps is learning how to control it. I run a cat in kara, The other hunter who is better geared than me, runs a ravager. My cat ALWAYS wipes the floor with his ravager in damage done, because I have better pet control. Equal player skill and gear though, the ravager is king.
