New to fire...Raid spec?Follow

#1 Mar 04 2008 at 9:51 PM Rating: Decent
Hey everyone, so I finally did it. I have been frost since day 1 and did alot of pvp when I was lvling and got to 70, so I had fsw set to start and battlecast set, but recently I have found myself raiding and not pvping at all. I have some kara and maulgar loot and got the boe epic robe to so I could fully replace the fsw set and go fire. I copied a guildies spec which is 41/20/0 to start with just because I have no clue about fire/arcane. So I was wondering if this is a good spec to raid/do a little pvp with, pom pyro seems to do wonderious things to squishies lol. Or is there a spec that is just all around better for raiding with a touch of pvp? Any input is great!

First of all, I'm pretty sure there's a sticky about this. I mean, if you actually put in some effort and searched other posts you could find your answer. It's really not that hard on account of every other post is "ZOMG check my talents!" or "How to Raid? lolz lolz lolz" or "Am i ready for Heroics/Kara?"

But I'll answer your question anyways.
41/20 is usually the spec mages go when they're lacking in the +spell dmg department. I assume you have enough (shoot for about +800 spell dmg unbuffed) so you should respec to the new uber build 2/48/11. Combining Icy Veins and Combustion is quite fun. I'm too lazy to link something right now, but you'll be able to find it very quickly. If you can't find it, look up Cataclysmic (on Exodar) and the build you see is the standard raiding fire build.

I'd actually suggest using 40/21/0 or 38/20/3 or some variation of that, personally.

Well, 40/21/0 vs 41/20... you're talking which is better, blastwave or slow. If you do some pvp, I like slow moreso, especially with the coming decreased cost of slow in 2.4. It has some good uses in PvE as well (makes kiting ridiculously simple) and in PvE, I hardly ever use blastwave anyways. I really did love the 38/23/0 build when I used it long long ago and picking up the frost for +hit is always a good move.

Yeah, but he said raid spec and not PvPing at all, and Blastwave is pretty powerful in raid AoE situations.
