Need to fine tune my shammy.Follow

I got a small problem. I need to figure out how to fine tune my shammy. So heres my stats, builds and gear. My biggest concern is that I'm used to coming in first on the dmg meters. I mean, I am dps after all. So if I come in 3rd or 4th, I'm not happy. Even in a 10 man raid.

I realize shammies are supposed to focus on spell crit, but the mages in my group, though about the same lv gear if not lower have higher crit%. I'm sitting at 33.79% crit without totem of wrath as I use nature's swiftness to kill running enemies or heal the tank or healer should things go wrong.

My gear is as follows, I'll post what else I have to go with it.

Gear: Other stuff:
Head: Gadgetstorm Goggles Headress of Tides, Glads helm
Amulet: Necklace of Adorned Souls
Shoulders: Pauldron of Furious Elements. Glads shoulders.
Back: Shadow Cloak of Dalaran
Chest: Netherstrike Breastplate
Wrists: Netherstrike bracers
Gloves: Glads gloves
Belt: Malefic Girdle
Legs: Glads leggings
Feet: Hurricane Boots
Rings: Violet Ring/Ring of unrelenting storms
Trinkets: Heavenly inspiration/Xi'ri's gift

Yes I need to replace the inspiration.

So as it is, I'm behind our mages in Crits by 3 or 4% and spell dmg by a butt ton. My spell dmg is only 727. So I realize we need crit, but what good is crit if your only doing 1k dmg? Right now i do bout 1200-1400 per LB and my crits are 2.6k to 3k unbuffed for all that. My friends mage literally just hit 70 and hes doing 5k crits. So how can I improve my spell dmg? What pieces of gear do you suggest? I'm only at kara right now. Should I look into cloth gear? If so, what would you all suggest? What builds would you suggest for pure dmg. I'm using Elemental Precision for the hit% and the threat reduction. As far as I know thats the only one thats not affecting my dmg.

From what I have seen the Shaman mechanics are totally different than any other spell casters. I can keep up with mages and locks with around 700 damage and 30% to crit. One of the big things you are missing by not having ToW is the 3% to hit. 3% to hit is a lot and can help with your damage output.

Also as much as it kind of sucks if you are going to maximize damage you will be spamming lightning bolt and nothing else, including healing. Any healing you do will drop your damage quite a bit. Now this is what I say to be on top of the damage meters.

If you are healing some in a group than damage meters mean nothing since you are doing your part in a different way. I frequently will be somewhere between 2-4 on the damage meters and 3-5 on the healing meters. For me this is fine since I know I am doing what I need to for our group to have success.

This type of thing is where people get shaman wrong. If you drop totems and the dps increases of the group than you are doing your job. Is it possible for a shaman to be #1 on the meters? Sure, but if you are doing your job in a group and there are equally or better geared mages/locks/rogues they are probably going to beat you on the damage meters.

If you want to see what you are doing overall look at the damage+healing meter instead of just damage. It will be a more accurate showing of what you brought to the group

ETA: Mages are supposed to do big crit damage, shaman do a lot of their damage from lightning overload/windfury. This means you are not going to see one big number on your screen but multiple lower numbers. I do about the damage you do but when I get a crit of 3k and a LO double crit of 3.5k that adds up to a lot and balances out with what mages do. If you want to see the total damage of LO/WF download Shaman's Friend its an addon that shows that as well as what you purge and warns you if you do not have a shield on when entering combat.
