Growl not working on Humanoids...Follow

#1 Mar 02 2008 at 9:24 PM Rating: Decent
Hi Folks,

Got a Level 22 Hunter (horde) and have a Deviate Viper pet and for some reason whenever I fight vs. Humanoids (so far only goblins) the growl goes off (manually and automatically) but doesn't raise agro, according to Omen threat meter. However, when against a beast, it works fine... Strange eh?

Anyone else notice this? I'll have to try more tests, like my other pets, other humanoid types and so forth..

That sounds weird i am guessing you have the highest growl rank 3 on your pet ? and are giving your pet a second or so to get aggro ? , and are standing at a distance ? .

The big question is are you getting attacked by the mob ? as it may just be omen not seeing the threat ? i have 6 hunters and have never seen it happen like you describe ?

I'm not familiar with this issue... In what extent have you tested it? Did you just look at the threat meter or did the pet actually loose aggro?

Its possible that those particular mobs are immune to taunt, although that chance seems rather small...

Or growl resists. Especially if they've got a couple of levels on you.

Not without it being a bug... So far I've not yet met one mob immune to growl in WoW. I did find that mechanical mobs are immune to Torment (Voidwalker) though.

Deviate viper's poison spit has a range of 30yds, growl has a range of 5yds. Your pet may simply be out of the 5yd range when growl goes off.

Edit: me fail enlish? Umpossible!

Check in the combat log for:
<pet>'s Growl was resisted by <mob>
That would mean the mob resisted it. usually because the mob is more than 3 to 4 levels higher than your pet.
or
<pet> casts Growl on <mob>
That would mean the Growl did hit, but for some reason Omen is not registering it properly. Maybe there is some naming issue with your pet. Is it named something strange, with punctuation characters or something? I can't think of many cases where Omen would get confused about this.

If these entries are missing entirely, then I suspect (as mentioned above) the mob was out of Growling range.

Ack, sorry I didn't respond sooner. I've since stabled that pet and got a Boar.

In response to this:

Nope, no resists, most of those goblins were 4-5 levels below me. (and the pet)

That's exactly what would happen. Only it wasn't just omen, the mob would come after me after a few shots, indicating the growl itself actually wasn't doing anything.

"Maybe there is some naming issue with your pet. Is it named something strange, with punctuation characters or something? I can't think of many cases where Omen would get confused about this."

Pet is named "Kaa" (from the snake in Jungle Book) I've played lots of Hunters and had lots of pets and have never seen this before either. The very very odd part is that it only doesn't work on Goblins, not all humanoids.

"If these entries are missing entirely, then I suspect (as mentioned above) the mob was out of Growling range."

Nope, the pet was right up against the mob.

If you folks want me to I can dig that pet out and do more tests, I just found it very odd indeed.
