I'm BM spec and I just got the abacus today and its pretty pimp, but I had another hunter tout the hourglass from black morass... I'm using the bloodlust brooch as my other trinket either way, so what's your opinion on the abacus vs the hourglass?
I've never used the abacus, so I don't know if it speeds up your Steady Shot cast time. If it does, that's really schweet. If you don't use the 1:1 shot rotation macro, I can kinda see it messing up your timing, but if you do use one, it should be excellent.
Personally, I use the hourglass, and it's okay. I'm using a 3.10 speed crossbow because I don't have wolfslayer yet. I've seen BBW at least 4 times now, and he must not like my leet running skills, because he won't drop my gun! But even with my slow speed, it procs pretty often.

If you're BM I would suspect it depends on your wep. If you're using Wolfslayer's, or something close in speed, then the abacus won't do you a whole lot of good since you'll be bashing your head against the GCD even before haste. BM with a slower weapon, or MM might get more out of abacus. I'd suspect that other Survival hunters will go with the abacus for the crit like I did.
I have both of these trinkets and prefer the hourglass personally coupled with the blood lust brooch... recently BM spec with sunfurry bow I think... It does proc alot and I also like not having to manage the timer on the trinket,,, It just does it's thing and I pew pew away 'til somethings dead. Havn't noticed any clippeng either.
As said by others: Depends on your speed. If you've got a +2.9 weapon: Abacus. If you've got a 2.7 weapon (teh utlimate wepon spead!): Hourglass.
Also, if you're forgetful you might want to use the Hourglass either way, since it doesn't need activation. If you're pr0 and hardc0re and always remember your CD's, Abacus is fine.

If you got a slow weapon just do a 1:1.5 rotation.

Abacus is crap when compared with any decent trinket, and this does not depend on your weapon speed. Just don't use it.
Uptime is only 1/12 which is way to short.
Hourglass is a lot better, especially for a BM hunter who really likes this additional crit and the AP from the proc.
Haste is not really good for BMs (passive haste is nice if you have a too slow weapon, proc haste is still not good for BMs) as they already have a nice 1:1 rotation.
If you have a slow weapon and want to use abacus because of this you basically have a good speed 1/12th of the time while having a non-optimal weapon speed 11/12th of the time. Just go for a weapon with nice speed (~2.6-2.7; 2.9 with some passive haste gear is also ok).
If you have a decently fast weapon the abacus will only be worse. With a lot of additional haste you have to either switch to just auto-shotting for 10 seconds or to clip your autos when you try to insert steady shots. In both ways you won't get a lot of extra DPS, if you get any extra DPS at all.
