Hey there guys,

I have been playing a lot with my kitty recently and have been noticing that in almost every instance that I run as feral cat, I out DPS every one else. Extrapolating, I am now thinking about end game - and while I know that the armor sets change EVERYTHING when you get to end game, what is so wrong with druids dpsing as kitties? Everyone complains when I tell them I will be playing as feral mainly DPS for a group, and then when they pull up the dmg meters, they all quiet down. Are we really that inferior to other classes DPS? Maybe I just rolled an extremely powerful Tauren...

In my experience kitties aren't given many props when it comes to DPS because most "DPS" classes are really "DPS and CC" classes, and CC is an area in which we are weak at our best, and at our worst indoors (no roots) in cat form (no cyclone, at least bear you can "fake" CC just by getting the mob to stick to you). So when you're looking for DPS for your party, a rogue that can sap, hunter that can trap, mage that can sheep, etc. become very appealing relative to a cat that can't. Especially once you hit heroics where you need to be consistently CC'ing at least half of every pull.

(Edit: I don't think we need to have the drawn out "Yeah but we can innervate, offheal, offtank, and battlerez in a pinch" discussion again...we all know all that here, and that should be passed onto anybody expressing specism against our noble kitty cats.)

And while this part is beyond me, I've heard it time and time again that our damage/gear doesn't scale well beyond Kara. So we can top damage meters heading into Kara, but beyond that the other classes start to pull away.

We can hold our own with DPS for all of Kara and much of TK, SSC. Once you start getting into BT & Hyjal, we start falling behind significantly. This may change a bit with the new badge loot becoming available.

Our big problem though is threat. We don't have a feign death, soulshatter, invisibility, vanish. All the "true" DPS classes have this and thus are able to put out much more damage per threat the tank generates. I have a friend who is a T6 hunter and he can sustain 1800 DPS. I have yet to see a tank that can put that sort of threat out, so even if we get uber gear, we will never be able to match these other classes.

We make up for it in other ways though. :)

We do have cower that reduces threat >.<

From what I've seen, both personally and in regards to other classes, druids and warriors are the least able to sustain significant dps due to not having a quick threat drop.

As far as cower is concerned, the main way it reduces threat is the fact that you use energy and a global cooldown to not do damage. One crit mangle or non-crit shred has just negated the threat drop of cower. Plus the decrease is affected by BoSalv and innate threat reduction, so it's even worse when those are incorporated.

Yah, around 300 threat, which is as useless as rake or TF.

It would be nice to have a real aggro drop, but as was previously stated, Cower does not work very well.

Every once in a while I will be able to go kitty form for Void Reaver. Most times this ends in my death. I will be watching my Omen and try to stay low, but while shredding the crits can add up fairly quickly.

One time fighting VR, it got to the point where I was spamming Cower and seeing no real reduction in threat. I had actually stopped attacking for like 25-30 seconds until the big ******* turned on me. Think I actually survived 1 hit from VR, but the second on did me in.

Lol now if I am in a large raid I will be in bear gear, regardless if I am asked to go kitty and DPS.

Think my best crit with this set up was on Mag while he was banished for a second. I got a 5K+ crit with shred. heh I realize that is a little bit of cheating counting the crit while the ******* was banished, but oh well. lol

Thinking out loud but cower should be a scaled ability.

It should be based on Agility, or AP, or something as opposed to a static amount.

At least that way it's usefulness doesn't essentially die the better geared you are.

yea, but should be are the key words there!!!

atmo some people think we are OP and complain to blizzard to nurf, i would love cower to work in a scaling format tho but the chances are blizzard arnt gonna let it happen because all the druid ahters in the world will start an up-roar and complain about us having something helpful in agro control!!!

Even with the best gear possible, Warriors, Druids, Shamans, S Priests, and Retadins are limited by the amount of threat the tank can generate. The pure DPS classes all have a total or partial threat dump. While it would be nice for every class have a way to shed large amounts of aggro, it would also go a long way to trivialize tanking.
