Role in lvl 70 instances?Follow

#1 Mar 02 2008 at 4:11 PM Rating: Good
Okay my main is a Warlock, so that has DPS covered. However I would like to make another character so I can take on other roles in instances I'm currently thinking about a Druid since I'm thinking then I could respec if needed and be either a Healer or Tank. But first I wanted to ask, are Druids capable Main Tanks in a 5 man instance at lvl 70? How about Heroics? And same for healing, can they heal Heroics? And finally will I need to switch gear to go between roles, switch spec, both, or will I be fine in just one set of gear and not need to switch specs?

You will need a different set of gear for everything, definitely. One for tanking, one for cat dps, one for balance dps and one for healing. Druids have no inventory space free, ever.

As feral, you can tank any normal or heroic as far as I have seen, and are the perfect off-tank in raids, since you can switch to full dps when no second tank is needed.

As feral (with healing gear, of course), you can heal any normal 5man, but that's about it. As resto (or Dreamstate build), you can heal anything, but you are more suited for raiding. You can heal heroics fine, it's just that your type of healing I think is more efficient when you're not the only healer.

Hey
Yeah tanking 5 man instances is done fine as a druid. We have more mitagation than most warriors our level. I cant speak for healing, since i havent done it since around level 30. You dont have to have many out fits for different roles, if you dont want to. But its easier to find a group and respec if your not into one spec. I wish I kept more leather caster gear to give balance a go but ohwell.

But dont think that if your a druid your always expected to do everything, seriously i have gone through most the game refusing healing offers becuase i dont ike healing all that much. So if you like tanking or melee dpsing, you can stick with it and find a group who would want you.

Good luck,Have fun, Cya.

You will find the transition from normal instances to heroics very hard to get use to as a healer.

Normal is very much just putting on the hot's and sitting back and relaxing. In heroics, you use HT alot more.

phoenixombre is right, i frequently tank heroics (use Heavy Clefthoof), but live and play in my dps gear. And i carry a bag of healer gear (with Heart of the Wild i have more mana than other casters in my party) which gives me about +800 healing. That is enough to heal any reg 70 instance (boss fights cut it close sometimes, and i've yet to successfully heal a Murmur fight), but not enough to heal any raids or heroics. So if i run heroics i play either tank or dps but i cant heal.
So you will want a set of healer gear, and probably a few pieces of tanking gear (which i only get out when i'm tanking heroics, i tank reg 70's in dps gear), and you should be good. Well, that works for me anyway
