New to 70, Arenas, and endgame pvp... Help!Follow

#1 Mar 02 2008 at 1:23 PM Rating: Decent
I feel like a nub all over again.

I just lvled up to 70 last week and have been struggling with figuring out what direction I want to head and what to do. Currently I am getting my *** handed to me in pvp... alot. My goal is to straight pvp for now and farm honor for s1 gear to help me out getting more current arena gear.

here's my build www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Gorgonnash&n=Trekkel
I know its a bit pathetic, but keep in mind, I grew up assasination/combat, then switched to combat/assassin, and now after getting my *** kicked by a 64 (along with any 70 I attack alone), I've come to terms with the fact that Im in desperate need of some help.

Im thinking of going into sublety, but know absolutely nothing about it, what build to respec, what weapons to get etc...

Any help you guys could offer to guide me back towards getting a little respect and pride back, isntead of constantly getting laughed at when I try to jump someone with 20% health... and lose.

and its not that Im TERRIBLE at this, I handle my own and amusually top 3 in the 19, 29, and 39 bg's with alts with simple instance gear, but 70 just seems like an entirely different beast.

spend all your waking hours in BG's. Spend your sleeping hours in instances.

What I did at 70 was kind of stupid, but I've come to terms with that. I bought The Night Blade for 600g and got lucky with a Ced's Carver drop from an instance. Now I'm farming honor for S1/arena gear, and running kara for drops.

Right now your armory is showing 8 points in Assassination. Hope that's changing soon...

Good luck :)

I am currently unspent on talent points, 0/0/0.

Im not sure what weapon spec to go with, or what subtlety is all about.
I've never touched subtlety before, so Im kinda lost.

fresh 70 sucks, you get facepwned by everyone who also isn't a fresh 70.

As a scrub myself, I play a BG game called "seek and destroy enemy scrubs." Basically, with 5/5 MoD, the only thing that isn't gimped compared to older toons is your stealth. I use that to skulk around the BG hunting for enemy scrubs that I can actually kill (typically only a couple toons per BG).

I could get pretty sweet kill/death records this way. People are suspicious of how i do it cause my gear is so bad.

try it. its fun.

Join an arena team immediately, start one up if you have to, because finding a team with no resilience can be hard. Get your ten games in per week just to get points. Don't worry if you do bad, you'll gain more survivability in time.

Spend all other time in Battlegrounds and get honor. AV usually is a good choice to get lots of honor. As a Rogue, try protecting the towers from the horde when they cap them, stealth in and get them back. It's quite fun. Remember you do have time to sap/blind and cap a tower right as they're about to get out of the cc. Many will trinket out of sap and get you, follow up with blind and immediately click on flag to make sure you get the 10 seconds in!

Many players in 70s BGs have been there (and Arena) for a while and have the gear/skills to prove it. Just a fact of life for new 70s: you will get destroyed. A lot.

I'm still pretty new at 70 and often get ruined but... well.. ***** it. I get killed, rez and head right back in there running headlong to my continued doom with the mad screams of the crazy-brave. And every once in a while I pull down one of those "geared to the ears" players. Very rarely, but it happens.

But as long as I'm learning something and enjoying myself, why not?

Good luck and have fun.

Take it all in stride man. You are a fresh 70 in a world of geared and experienced people. I'm not currently playing, and I haven't played since about the beginning of sept of last year. I was no expert in PvP, but I did my fare share of it (as well as PvE). I can tell you this, you have an up-hill battle to fight. Take the above advice and 1) Get on an arena "just for points" team ASAP 2) Play every week 3) Do as much BG as you can possibly stand 4) Do as many instances as you possibly can.

Gear wise, for a fresh 70 you aren't doing too bad. If BC was just launched, you wouldn't be in bad shape. However, you have worse weapons than I had at 60. There definitely are some weapons out there from quests which will be immediate upgrades to those (IIRC - I'm saying this all from memory). Use the search function here and look for gear that you can pick up from quest upgrades (or craftable stuff) easily. These are easy/fast to get and will help you in both PvP and PvE.

As a comparison, with my combat sword build at 70, when I quit, I had something like (PvE gear): 1750ap, ~8.8k HP, 25% crit, capped hit rating (at whatever the cap was then... somewhere around 308 or 330 or something like that i can't remember). I could literally kill you before you had a chance to move, and could probably tear through you with cool-downs even if you had a healer (again in PvE gear). In PvP gear I was around 1375ap 11k hp 350ish resiliance 29% crit, and like 140 hit or something like that. This was months ago. Point is: you have a lot of "catching up to do." Luckly, blizzard did put the S1 arena gear into the honor grind, so you simply have to work for it. I would highly recommend that if you want to start on the most equal footing fast you:

1) Stockpile arena points for S4

2) Get as much freaking honor gear as possible (I would buy the new offset boots/belt/bracers just after buying weapons... and then start getting set pieces).

3) Start grinding rep with things like scryers/aldor (for shoulder enchants) and such ASAP... gold for blue quality gems ASAP... mats for pant enchants, etc...

I'm not sure how far S4 is away, but if you do the above you should be able to catch up pretty fast. When S4 comes out, buy 2-3 pieces of armor (depending on how many points you have saved) and keep at it. The off set items from honor won't be much worse than the "new" S4 versions (which is good for you).

I'm not a huge fan of hording points, but in your case, I'd say that it might make sense. It'll give you a nice little morale boost if you can equip 2 fresh new top of the line pieces when S4 comes out. At this stage in the game, it probably will take you like a month to get enough points for a single piece, and you are probably better off just waiting the remainder of the time to use those points. If you do BGs hardcore, you can get points pretty fast, and at least get weapons + offsets.

Note: I am recommending offsets before set pieces only based on the fact that the upgrade from new S4 offset pieces from S3 pieces is much smaller than you would get from upgrading say S1 (honor gained) set pieces to S4 (arena gained) set pieces. If you can grind out the honor, getting both is great (get things like shoulders first as you probably wont be able to obtain the initial arena rating for s4 ones right away)
