Going thru mid toon crisis and need helpFollow

Hi everyone

I currently have a lvl 52 tauren shammy on a blue server. I usually BG pvp with my lvl 70 chars but I dont know what is my future as a shammy. I played a cleric on EQ for over 6 years and fully understand the roll a healer plays. For 6 years, i raided day in and day out. Since moving to WoW almost 3 years ago, i havnt raided at all. I had kinda got burnt out during my EQ days. Guild drama can also take its toll on you.

My dilema is this ... I enjoy BG pvping and would like to graduate to Arena pvp ( i now have the time to devote to an arena commitment ) and i also miss raiding ( a little ). Ive been reading your boards and u all seem to think that shamans are not a viable class for PvPing. Does this mean I should look towards guild raiding as a resto shammy? Are shammies good at healing end game content? Is there a life as a healer in 5x5 arena or am i just the fat kid that noone picks for the softball game at school?

I dont play my shammy all that often but when i do play him, i do enjoy it.

Im not looking for any handholding. Im not looking for builds or gear advice as these boards are full of them. What I am looking for i guess is a glimpse into your crystal balls as to what my shammys life at 70 would hold.

Thx all for listening to me dribble on

if you plan on doing BGs, then you will be fine at pvp. Arena is where our flaws start to come out. Stick to 3v3 or 5v5 as a shaman and you should be fine.
just note these enemies depending on spec. if you are elemental, avoid trying to 1v1 warriors, rogues, (well, i guess you can't avoid this ><><) Enhancement, avoid mages and locks. Resto you should be fine, just eb sure to go into melee range with a hunter and smack him aroudn with flameshock on your weapon, while popping frost shock.

Note that "you should be just fine" means you actually have a chance of winning, no matter how slim. You are still going to be at a disadvantage against pretty much every class/spec and at an advantage against very few, if any, classes/specs. Breaking even is "just fine" for us.

An additional problem with raiding and PvP-ing as a Shaman is that we don't have "halfway" builds that can work for both. There is a vast difference between an Elemental PvP spec and an Elemental raiding spec, an Enhancement PvP spec and an Enhancement raiding spec, etc. All Shaman builds are simply stretched too thin at the moment for us to cover all of our bases at once. You can be good at one and suck at the other or be mediocre for both. Resto comes closest, but even it benefits more from a respec in between than just being left alone.

Which is why you have to have a party to play to your class. Should be fine is me, with a 1300 rating.

Resto shamans with good PVP gear can usually find a spot on a 5v5 team because of Bloodlust.

Even if the shaman gets focused and dies withing 15 seconds they probably had a chance to get BL off. And to be honest, in my shaman's few forays into 5v5 it wasn't horrible. You have to know how to use pillars and LOS enemy casters.

Resto shamans are awesome raid healers and I don't think any guild would attempt BT or MH without at least 1 resto shaman in the raid. Besides a phenomenal raid heal in Chain Heal they also get mana tide totem which helps keep your casters/healers with mana through long fights and they still get Bloodlust in crisis situations where faster heals are necessary.

From my personal exp at pvp, dude, anythings possible. But yeah, you definately find much tougher opponents in arena. My personal style is elemental as i can dish out quite a bit of dmg. You'll just bout never use a lightning bolt, but if you go the standard 40/0/21 you get the instant chain lightning. The trick is to wait for them to drop to 60% then eshock and hit your macro to do maximum dmg with the instant crit chain. Otherwise, we are loved for our bloodlust and grounding totems. Not too mention tremor (which in 2.4 pulses on 3 secs). I think shamans are very possible in any pvp. You'll notice that i've completely changed around from my rant thread awhile back. Its just personal exp. I can take and beat any class build but demon locks and you can too given time and skill.
