Greetings all, well I made a hunter finally (tons of fun wish I hadn't waited so long). Anyway my first pet is a boar. Well we are now both level 13 and I looked up where to get rank 2 of charge. So I put my pet into the stable went out and tamed another boar which had rank 2 charge. My problem is that I won't learn the skill. I've watched my new boar kill about 15 things and my hunter still hasn't learned the new skill so I can teach it to my main pet.

What am I doing wrong? Or does it just take a certain number of times watching a tamed pet before you learn the skill, or is it random?

Slightly random. Sometimes you get the skill on first use, sometimes it takes half an hour of grinding. Make sure you are close to your pet when the skill is used, since that does seem to affect the learning speed. I don't have any sources or confirmations on that, though. Could be coincidences during my own skill training.

thanks man, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong. I went back and let my new pet kill about 15 more until I learned the skill.

I've never had any evidence of that. I've learned stuff instantly while being far away, and sometimes it's taken ages when I'm close. Vice versa too, of course. Ime, it's completely random.

Yeah, as I said it could be coincidental. Heard it from other Hunters, tried it out and it worked. But since I can't confirm it myself, I'll chalk it up to "possible, but not too probable".

I found it also seems to make a difference if the pet is exactly the same level i went and got a cat with claw and bite 3 and the darn thing took about 45 minutes to get both learnt , yet when i did the same with a hunter 4 levels higher i got the skills in about 3 kills ?

even the best hunters cannot work out why it can take ages to learn a new pet skill , and yet other times it is almost instant , it seems to be as random as drops are for me. ,

and i have tried to be in melee range and it does not make any difference for me.
