Bored at work: weird buildsFollow

#1 Feb 29 2008 at 4:01 PM Rating: Decent
While I'm sitting at work, sometimes I think about 'what if' stuff for WoW, so I thought I'd make a post for it.

Are there any strange/wacky builds you have been considering but haven't tried and wonder if other people have some info?

Here's my question: Has anyone tried a primarily assassination build without going all the way to mutilate? Only thing I've really used assassination for is utility after a different tree, it's got some great early talents in the tree, but I don't have much experience with some of the later ones.

For instance: Find Weakness. Is that 10% damage for all offensive abilities of anyone against the target or just all your offensive abilities?

For instance, here's a totally random build:

Party friendly: Find weakness + hemorrhage. I doubt I'd ever try it, but anyone with any experience of anything near it?

i dont really have a strange build of my own but id like to add to ur question about find weakness

does the 10% damage stack or just renew if a different finisher is used before those 10 second are up?

It renews.

And I'm fairly certain the Find Weakness debuff only applies to the rogue who applied it, but I haven't run as or with a muti rogue in a while, so I can't be positive.

If your going 40 in assassination you might as well drop either a point in quick recovery or a point in improved poisons and get vigor

Find Weakness is self only.

Ok, I went and tried this out since I have some time inbetween raids. The actual tooltip ingame says 'your' offensive abilities. Also, it's not a debuff on the mob, it's a buff on you.

I tried this and an assassination/combat build out.

The assassination/subtlety build was fun, find weakness was on all the time basically for a constant +10% damage. I might try it again. You can do SnD>5pt Rupture>5pt evisc rotations. You get combo points as an insane rate.

Second I tried assassination/combat. I didn't go all the way to find weakness so I could get adrenaline rush/blade flurry. This build felt slow. Using Sinister Strike without having Combat Potency made me constantly waiting for energy. I had 35 all the time waiting for 40, made me miss hemorrhage. It still worked ok. I finished the daily heroic as this build and my damage output was fine. When I popped AR I was doing finishing moves like nuts :P

I think I'm going to go back and try an assassination/hemo build again, since I still have some time. Probably won't go down as far as find weakness.

For the Find Weakness - Hemo build, have you thought about getting Improved Kidney Shot in there and using that as your finisher? Would add even more damage while they're stunned.

Here's my idea for a goofy PvE build

General idea here is to use some +Defense gear and Ghostly Strike to dodge attacks for more Combo points with Setup, and spam Eviscerate.

Too bad the only things wort using Kidney Shot on(Bosses) are 99% of the time immune to stun. And since I would assume Imp Kidney Shot works like the Assassination 2 Piece then it wouldn't be of any use except on trash.

Assuming we are talking about PvE.

I guess that'd be one way to make Muti worth using... make it a debuff, or a group buff a la Feriocious Inspiration.

Yeah, I thought about it, and while kidney shot is useful solo, its not with groups. Not to mention so much in raids is immune to it, you'll cause your tanks a conniption fit if you're constantly stunning their target. Warriors/druids won't get as much rage, which is bad. For paladins, it downright kills their threat generation if the mob isn't hitting them. Quickest way to untank a tank, so I try to not use it :)

Yeah, I don't recommend using it in groups. I brought it up because its a common Mutilate build component =)

Actually pally tanks are fine to stun with, they build threat with spell dam thru seal/judgement of righteousness/vengeance/blood, avengers shield and consecration(as well as exorcisism if undead/demon). And while they can also generate more threat via blocking with holy shield up, it's not entirely necessary especially at the beginning of a pull like it is for warr/druid.

Of course if your pally tank has really low spell dam then any threat you deprive him/her of can be a problem.
