Aimed shotFollow

#1 Feb 29 2008 at 5:30 AM Rating: Decent
I'm a level 28 hunter and when I went to get new skills I saw aimed shot 2 but I have never seen aimed shot 1. Do I have to go to a special trainer or is it quest related? Thanks in advance for any help.

Go ingame, press N, check the third tier on the Marksman tree.

Thank you. I have been leveling the beast master side of my talent tree and never thought to look there.

Aimed shot sounds all big bad and scary, but I rarely use it in PvE. I bust it out for MD on tanks, healing mobs, and maybe a few other occasions. Its fun when it crits but you really aren't missing out on a whole lot by not having it. Continue down the BM tree, that is your bread and butter for leveling.

Aimed shot is pretty lack luster in PvE, aside from the situational uses(Aimed+MD, the healing Debuff when no one is available to interrupt), but you need to learn Aimed Shot in order to get Mortal shots which is a major increase in DPS.

Aimed shot certainly isn't the be-all end-all, but it does have it uses beyond just MD'ing tanks.

I'm a fairly well geared 70 and I use it all the time when I'm farming. I send the pet to the target and start the Aimed Shot right after. During the cast time, the pet has time to get to the target and get a growl off. I'll pull aggro once in a while, but I can use other abilities to slow the mob and usually kill it before it reaches melee range (Yay, decreased dead zone) or just kite it.

This same basic tactic is applicable at really any level once you get aimed shot.

When I farm I don't used aimed shot, to allow my pet some time I use this method. As soon as you kill Mob A, send your pet to attack Mob B. Meanwhile you go run over and loot Mob A. Once looting is completed, begin your normal attack on Mob B.

You get the same effect as you have with using Aimed when you send your pet, the only difference is you don't have that fraction of a second of downtime for your pet while you are looting. In one fight you don't notice it, but with a few hours of farming(especially when you find that spot where there are just the right number of mobs and they spawn in the exact time you need) you get into this rhythm that goes non-stop attack > mob dies >pet attack next mob > run and loot > attack > mob dies > pet attack next mob...

I usually farm in nagrand (it close to my home of aldor rise and leather/clefthoof leather, primal air and clefthoof meat sells well) where mobs are low lvl.
My usual tactic there is to pull multiple mobs at a time by sending my pet at 1 with a serpent sting following it, trap a second mob and kite the 3rd.
That is much more fun to me, and i tag enough mobs to make sure that anyone trying to compete with me for mobs is gone in 5 minutes >:)

edit: oh wait we were talking about aimed shot....
Nope, never use it in PvE besides MD.
You can do the same amount of damage with normal shooting rotation and that costs a lot less mana.

I do this as well when I'm on Elemental Plateau, it pisses people off, but after a pull or two of doing this I normally have the place to myself.. it's nice.

If I tried that the horde would just laugh and kill me. Cardinal rule of pvp, don't pull more then you can ignore.

Suggestion: ignore the BM tree for the next 5 levels, and put it into Lethal Shots. Go back to the BM tree after that.
