Gemming at Level 65??Follow

Lately, i've been getting gear with Gem Slots on them and most of the gear I have are usually "somewhat" better than these without the slots.

I don't do much PvP and mostly quest and leveling. I think that my gear is on par with my level currently. Is gemming then a waste of $$GOLD if you are going to replace it all at level 70 anyway?

Should I just keep the "somewhat" better NON-SLot items and sell the slotted ones and keep the gold?

Here is my armory Here

Just my opinion and others may be able to answer this better but I will say save the gold. I spent (wasted) a whole lot getting gems for various items I had received. I even made sure not to be cheap and got the gems with the higher stats. Put them on the piece, equipped it, and found that often I had ever so slightly better or, more often than not, worse stats than I had before. The stuff that I spent 10 gold on from the AH like the bandit stuff was better than my item with it's ~125G gems in it. I had one that turned out OK that I probably spent about 50G on but I think I ended up getting something better from a quest that I ended up using.

Seems to much stuff 65-69 isn't worth gemming unless you know there will be nothing better for a very, very long time.

Having said that.. I think I ended up keeping the helm and putting a few things in there. Wasn't able to find anything that I could get a hold of that was better. I am not sure about the gloves. I didn't get those as I was leveling so not sure what some decent red gems could do for you. Might want to look at what the gems give and see if there is any other items you could get soon instead.

You will likely run into the various things that I got from quests like some shoulders and a body that have sockets on it. If you have the gold and feel like spending it feel free, I did but soon after doing it, found other better cheaper options. I guess do some research and be fairly confident you won't put 250G into getting gems for an item and then find a quest reward 3 days later thats better.

Well, at the rate I am leveling...it's probably better for me to just save it for my Flyer :)

Gems cost less than 5g a piece when it comes to green quality gems. (Differs between servers, and on mine they vendor for more than they cost on AH) Each gem adds around 6 pure stats, or 12 AP/Healing and so on. Cheap as hell for that amount of +stats.

Take those gems into account, find out which of the items are upgrades, and sell the one that gives you least stats.

Yeah, gems are dirt cheap. Save the blue gems for good epics and put the greens in everything else.

Yeah, that pretty much covers it... Ah green quility gems are the way to go for leveling gear... they are couple gold each maybe and have decent stat boosts. Also, using the armory is a good idea to see what your next upgrades could be and where to get them. That may also help you decide weather to gem or not to.

Another tip; you can regem items! So if you get a piece and end up with it for awhile and maybe you gemmed it poorly... re-socket it.

I got the helm of second sight from SMV quest and gemmed it with cheap gems thinking I would only have it for a little while. Turned out I had it until I got a better one from Gruul's lair weeks and weeks later. I eventually dropped in better gems later on when i had the cash and that proved to be a wise investment...

I cut green gems for free on Uther realm, don't know if this is a popular thing to do, but with all the prospecting I do, I have so many green gems that I need to get rid of. You can save even more money by buying uncut gems and asking a guildie to cut them for you.
