Hey all,

Recently got back into my shaman and having a ball. I've managed to level him so that I'm going to hit 70 in BEM with all the quests in Netherstorm and SMV left for a cash grind.

But... I've basically leveled him to become a healer, so I intend to be resto at 70 for alt-azhan and 5 mans when we're short, or just for a laugh, but I don't want all that quest gold to be wasted.

Whats the potential for a resto shammy questing in Nether/SMV mostly solo? Is this going to be a nightmare, or not too bad?

Well from what I've seen so far, it takes forever to kill something. But between Earth Shield, your own heals, and the two elementals - you can't be killed.

So, I guess it depends on your definition of "nightmare".

If you've got a good healing kit you'll have some decent spell damage. Just grab a big 2h weapon to tote around for solo questing and throw windfury on it. Every once in a while it will proc. It won't kill mobs in 1 shot like an enhance specced/geared might but it will help.

Oh yeah and keep earth shield up. As long as you are going 1 on 1 with mobs they probably won't be able to hurt you at all.

I remember when my shaman was resto I went to solo Teremus the Devourer in the Blasted Lands (he's a world boss dragon). His melee attacks barely did enough to hurt me. ES would proc every three of his attacks and i think I was down maybe 200 health after every ES proc.

It's a trade-off, but doable.

You won't die. Period. You can even solo quite a few group quests. The trade-off is, of course, that it takes awhile to kill things. The best work-around is to group with a DD: you mooch off their damage while imparting your survivability to them. If not, the recent changes (.33 of healing -> damage, 2-handers trainable) doesn't make solo too bad. If you're used to grinding on a mage or rogue it may be a headache by comparison, but it's still worth it for quest cash grinding.

I've found the easiest way to solo as a Resto Shaman is to just leave your healing gear on. I've got 500 or 600 spell damage (can't remember) in my healing gear right now, which means my FT weapon, Fire Totems, Shocks, and Lightning Bolts all hit for respectable amounts. I pull with LB, keep Flame Shock up and Searing Totem down at all times, then just auto-attack while I let them chicken-peck at my obscene armor and eat my Water Shield. Heal as needed. I'm no DPS class for sure, but I've got zero down time.

Questing as resto is mega easy, mobs wont even be able to touch you with ES. If I ever do get below 50% it's when I'm either a. OOM, B. multiple mobs hitting me or c. ES isnt up.

Ok, thanks for the replies. You've kind of answered my next question too.

What gear to do it in? :) I was thinking of using elem type gearing and relying on the extra spell dmg and crit on LB from resto talents, but will try it out in the healing gear and see how I go.

+healing buffs ES so keeping your healing gear will make you almost unkillable.

edit : ES, not WS /bonk

Newly hit Shaman with level 51, respecced from enhancement at 50, and it's amazing how much more fun I am having with resto then enhance. With enhance, I was basically resting for MP every few fights, just because I needed to heal up more. Wasn't using alot of MP during fights, was only using shocks when I had the proc for 60% cost reduction up, but I still needed to heal up. Bandages helped reduce this.. but I was still annoyed with the down time.

Ofcourse I am not killing any faster now.. but I have no down time, I haven't touched drinks. ES up, pull with two LB's.. drop mana stream and fire totem, wack away until almost dead, maybe a shock to finish off the mob. Recast ES, recall totems and move on. Mana is always around 85%, and I am at full mana near mob death.

Resto is a blast, needed in instances, prasied for healing in BG's. Lots of fun.
