What's the point?Follow

Let me start by saying that, yes I'm one of those noob level 62 ele shaman that has never done endgame or arena since this is my first and highest level character.

That being said, what is the incentive to level my shaman to 70 and hope to get into a raid group or go into the arena and pray that I can find a 5 man team that can carry me until I can get some decent equipment? Or do I just stop playing until WoLK is released and then continue leveling and hope blizz addresses some of the shaman issues.

After reading the different threads over the past couple of weeks and all of the problems people keep having with: nerfs, groups, endgame, arenas and gear(or lack thereof), what's the point?

Don't get me wrong, I leveled to 61 as enh and respecced to ele at 62, I had a great time leveling and running AB/WSG at 59, AV at 60 and being able to help/heal a group or the random player in PvE.

I guess my main issue is it seems like there is nothing to look forward to leading up to or reaching level 70. Judging by the recent treads there are very few good things to say about our class in general at or around level 70.

Please someone tell me that I didn't waste all this time leveling a class that no one needs or wants in a group and just gets owned in bg's and arena.

I guess it would be nice for someone to post some good news or something us shaman excel at instead of just why shaman are so bad at higher levels.

Anyone out there happy with their shaman?

Elemental shaman are, for the most part, fine at end-game raid DPS.

They have the same limitations other casters have in fights that require a lot of movement.

Elemental shaman can actually gear up VERY well pre-Kara (see my gear thread, those spell dmg, spell crit, and spell hit numbers are awesome) and do fine through 25-mans.

The only place I can see elemental shamans having a huge problem is against Hydross in SSC, seeing as he's nature-immune for at least half the fight and maybe the whole fight. I have only fought him on my rogue and I had sharpening stones on my OH and WF MH so I don't know if he was immune to the nature damage of my poisons.

Other than that ele shamans are fine for end-game raiding and provide a nice buff to their caster party with Wrath of Air Totem and Totem of Wrath (101 spell damage, 3% to hit, 3% to crit).

As far as arena goes, all shamans seem to be broken, not just elemental.

You can always BG yourself to a full set of ele starter gear (except for a shield) and at least have the stam/resil to survive a little in arenas. However, your lack of CC and lack of effective snares will cause you problems.

I have only ever done arena on my shaman as resto, and I will admit it's not fun.

If you really enjoy playing your ele shaman, focus more on the PVE side of things and do battlegrounds to get your PVP fix.

Edit: A lot of 5v5 arena teams take a shaman simply for the Bloodlust they can provide. These shamans are usually ele since resto shamans get outdone by priests and pallies in 5v5 and enhance shamans are too susceptible to kiting. At least with ele shamans you can try to stand in the back behind your teammates and lay down totems and sling chain lightning and lightning bolts.

I think that even with the limitations of the shaman class, it is still very fun to play. I leveled to 66 as enhancement and the melee dps is on par with rogues, but with more armor. Switching to resto made the grind painful, but I really enjoy healing in groups. Chain heal is such a great heal, and even with my crap gear my heal crits are close to 6000. I once did a mana tombs run with three shaman...me (resto), an enhancement, and an elemental. We had a pally tank and a mage with us. The whole instance only took 35 minutes because of the massive dps. Sure we don't have any CC, but we bring other benefits to the group/raid.

In the past week ive seen 5 differnt times people asking for DPS shaman for Kara, Gruul's. Thats the point. Ele shaman can pump out large numbers on boss fights especially, and on trash they do pretty good w/ chain lightining and added buffs.

I feel that some of the people who are posting are referring more to PvP than to PvE. The only time I may have even a little bit of trouble getting a group is if its a heroic and there is no CC in the party yet and they are looking for one more. There is no denying you have to have at least 1 CC class in a heroic or else it is going to be harder than it should be.

I find spots in Kara groups without any problems, which is as far as I have progressed. I never had problems with reg 5-mans either since lack of CC isnt as big of a deal.

Now PvP can get frustrating sometimes. In the smaller ones (WSG,AB,EOTS) people can pick you out easier and you will almost always have at least one rogue on you. The sad thing is you cant blame them, the ability to do huge burst damage and heal your party is too much to just let you sit in the back and do what you do.

In AV Ele Shammy shine. Its a lot easier since its a PvP/PvE combo and there are more people so its harder to pick you out. If we had some way of getting out of CC it would help quite a bit there is no denying that.

I have never done Arena and dont like PvP enough to find out what its like there but this is really where the Shammy seem to have their problems.

So if you are going to do 5-mans, Heroics, Raids, BGs then level your toon to 70 and go at it.:) If you are looking for an arena toon then reroll a MS Warr or Rogue, I hate these guys.:(

Thanks for your replies.

It's just disheartening to only see threads about issues people keep having with our class and nothing good or exciting happening with it.

It's nice to hear players that still enjoy their shaman and have good things to say about them.

Thanks again.
