Hit Vs. Haste.....please help!!Follow

#1 Feb 26 2008 at 12:48 PM Rating: Decent
So yeah, my hit isn't that high and I know I need to bring it up. My attack power is fairly high, around 1700's (with pve gear on) but the Badge of Justice gear is all about the Haste. Is more haste better than hit? Has anyone tested this out yet? Although my +hit is low I came in 2nd to a shammy that was geared out with Black Temple drops when we fought Void Reaver and I do the same in Kara as well. So yeah.....haste or hit?

Your armory profile has you in PvP gear so it is hard to say without knowing what your hit is in PvE gear.

If your hit is below 230ish then I'd be working my hardest on improving that regardless of haste. The rogue excel spreadsheet would be the best way to determine if a haste piece of gear would be better than a hit piece of gear.

I found recently that as I was improving my gear (into some T5 pieces) I was dropping hit a lot and went below the 200 mark. I tried hard for many weeks to target upgrade gear that ALWAYS gave me a boost to hit and am now thankfully getting back to an acceptable amount of hit 243+. I am curious now how I will go in the next SSC (we have been on a break for 2 weeks). I was 2nd on dps, hoping to be closer to first, though without swords probably wont be top.

Extremely solid advice.

The shorthand version is that Haste is like Hit, but more so. It'll help you less with Combat Potency, but it helps autoattack damage more as a general rule if you have even remotely decent crit/+hit to begin with.

Ahh sorry for the whole pvp gear thing. My hit right now is 159 due to the lack of hit gear I have(however I do have all epic gear except for about 2 or 3 items). Its great joining a guild and farming kara constantly and never getting any drops, or when something does drop, it goes to someone higher in the loot ladder even though you're the rogue leader of the guild /wrists. Yeah I gquit the other day because of it but anyways, I'll search for that spreadsheet. Anyone have any idea where it might be?

Aldriana's spreadsheet clearly states that hit is not taken into consideration when he calculates dps.

Dunno about the other one.

This sheet most definitely includes hit. There are some differences between the two, at least there were a couple weeks ago. The main one I remember is how Windfury is modeled, but I can't remember which sheet had it right.

I also always go with the advice from the spreadsheet.
But I was doing a mental exercise, and as a result I am getting that haste is worth less than +hit. But the difference becomes smaller the more +hit one has.
That is because:
1% more hit is 1% of the total potential white DPS (DPS one would have with no misses or dodges).
1% haste is 1% of the actual white DPS, which is less then the first one, because of the misses and dodges.

I hope this is a sound reasoning...

Hmm, nobody answered, so I have to tell myself that I was wrong.
I forgot about criticals:
+hit does nothing for the critical damage
+haste increases also critical damage

So doing a quick guess here: if the crit rate is bigger than your miss+being dodged rate, then haste will be better than +hit.
