Hey guys! Long time listener, first time caller. I've saved up about 28,000 honor points with the intention of upgrading my Skyfire Hawk Bow to the Gladiator's Heavy X-Bow. I wanted to be sure this was the right investment for me, since I'm going to start running Kara sometime soon (My hunter is my first 70).

After taking a good long look at the rest of my gear, I thought it might be wise to upgrade some of that instead. If I set up my sig properly, it should have a link to my armory profile.

Basically, what I'm asking is if getting the xbow would be the right choice for me now, or if my priorities should be elsewhere. I wouldn't have a problem running instances or anything, since I have a set 5-man group, though I haven't actually run any Heroics yet. I've been using Aethien's sticky as a sort of guideline for my gearing (great job on that btw, very helpful).

If it helps at all, I'm specced 41/20/0, with a ravager pet that's been good to me since level 10.

Thanks in advance for helping me do what I do, only better!

For raiding you need to increase your +hit. Its not important for PvP, which appears to be what you've done a lot of recently based on your gear. I suggest running various instances to fill in the most of the rest of the beast lord armor set. Plus look at Aethein's pre-raid gear list stickied at the top of this forum.

Valanos Longbow is a great bow for a newly lvl 70 Hunter, and will do you just fine until one of the ranged weapons in Kara drops for you. I would use your honor points to get the Vindicators Boots and a belt. The Boots will last you a very long time with an agility enchant on it and the belt will also. Neither of them having an equivalent or better until T5 content.

I would consider using your points on a ranged weapon to be a waste since you will be replacing it relatively quickly if you're going to be doing Kara on a pretty regular basis. Armor choices will benefit you for a longer period of time, just make sure you don't buy something that will be replaced sooner than later, otherwise you wasted 2 weeks of BG's and such for no good reason.

You're telling me you're doing kara soon enough, so I'll be giving pointers from a PvE perspective.

While the Skyfire bow is an awesome weapon for you stat-wise, it's much too fast for a BM hunter. The crossbow isn't very good for you stat-wise, and is also too slow.

Valanos' Longbow is indeed one of the best weapons you're able to get pre-kara (as a BM hunter), mostly due to its speed. There are several better stat-wise. If you can get the epic from SV to drop for you (Wrathtide Longbow or something) that's a strong candidate. The epic from Exalted with Thrallmar is a notch better, since the speed, but you're far away from Exalted so that'd be a heavy grind.

Ember crossbow from Arca is nice, although 3.0. Longbow from BM is also good, although you don't need much stam for PvE.

Basically, Valano's -> Steelhawk (from Attumen) -> Wolfslayer (from Big Bad Wolf) is the best exchange chain for a BM hunter if you aren't keen on grinding exalted rep.

Your spec is half good. While you've gotten almost all essentials, you've missed out on some small things.

Spirit Bond: Bad doggie. That's a no-go talent.
Thick Hide: Only dump one point in either this or Endurance Training to get to the next tier. Your pet shouldn't be taking hits in PvE, and while soloing it'll manage anyway.
Imp. Revive Pet: Max it! It'll save you alot of time (and as such; DPS) in raids if you pet dies for some reason.
Imp. Mend Pet: Max it! The dispell is extremely good, since it can get rid of nasty debuffs on your pet, saving time for your cleansers.
Frenzy: If you've got a focus dump on your pet, and growl isn't activated, you only ever need 4/5 in this for it to be up all the time.
Animal Handler: Max it! I play a warrior, so I know about melee DPS. +hit is the biggest increase to your DPS you can get until you're hit capped. Now, you can't hit cap your pet, so go for this talent!

MM tree is fine. Imp. HM gives you better raid Utility, while Efficiency is better for your personal mana maintenance. Very much up to you, and I know your rogues, warriors, enhance shammies, druids and pets will appreciate your choice.

Thanks for all the replies! I've been meaning to respec for a while. Most of what I picked was for solo leveling, which was the majority of my experience. Since I've done some reading on kara builds and such though, I've come to learn the evils of spirit bond... lol.

I picked up a Valanos today, and started the pvp grind for the remaining tokens I need for the boots and belt. Maybe by the time I get those I'll have enough honor to get one of the pvp reward gems too!

If you intend to do PvP, continue with that grind. However if you want gear for PvE, you'll have to run instances. PvP gear is lackluster for PvE usage. All purples are not created equal.

Yes, in fact I just got done running Shattered Halls with my group (hands didn't drop though D:). All I really need from pvp are the boots and belt, maybe bracers... because I don't see anything else worthwhile until I start doing 10-mans. They'll at least last me for a while, and are good upgrades.
