Need more AP, Where to grab it?Follow

#1 Feb 25 2008 at 3:03 PM Rating: Decent
I had a good weekend. Got the 2nd and 3rd key frags, and upgraded 3 pieces of gear. Finally to all blue. Now I need to work on the jewelry. I am sitting about 1100 AP, so where should I look to gain 500-600 AP?

Without additional info on your specific gear, I'd say:

1. Enchants.
2. Gems.
3. PvP honor epic gear.
4. Crafted epic gear.

My armory is in my sig. I still need a meta gem in the helm. Some of the enchants might be improved, including something on the helm. I know epics will help, I have just started TK runs, and have not done a heroic yet.

Reputation and augments is your short route to more AP. Honor Hold rep will give you access to the Hellforged Halberd. Further rep and you can buy the Veteran's Musket. You've got a small pile of STA augments. Replace those with Hunter focused augments. You've got one Trinket (the mushroom) which can be replaced by a Trinket you've probably got in the bank right now. There are two quest reward rings which both give you 50AP, 15 AGI, and 10 Hit Ratring. Get both and ditch your current pair of rings. And start running Heroics and dailies. This will give you both Rep and a few pieces of decent gear, plus the Golds needed to augment them.

You have an absurd amount of stam for your gear level. You can easily stand to lose 700+ hps and still be ready for early Kara. Ditch the stam enchants, armor kit, and gems in favor of more dps stats. Gloves can be replaced. Replace the 4 agi with 12 AP gems. Ravenclaw Band is a pretty awesome ring for pre-Kara. So is longstrider's loop. Bladefist's Breadth, do you have it mother f---er? Rune Engraved Belt, from the quest to kill the last boss of SH. The epic boots from heroic bot are pretty close to Fiend Slayers from Chess Event. In fact, if you're hit capped and BM I'd take those for the higher int and MP/5, but it is kind of a toss up. There are several neck options, Jagged Bark Pendant, Traitor's Noose, Bone Chain Necklace and Natasha's Choker are all good options. Hell, so is necklace of the deep, which as a Survival hunter I'm still wearing despite having 2 epic necklaces.

1: Get Sonic Spear.
2: Enchant Savagery.
3: ????
4: Profit!

If you haven't done a heroic yet the answer is pretty simple: Heroix!

You get completely sexish gear from there, trust me.

being a LW, would Fel Leather Gloves be a good glove upgrade? Or should I try to get the Netherdrake Gloves later or work on a quest chain?

gear up a bit more and run heroic Mech for the gloves, those are better then the netherdrake ones.

And heroic mech is pretty damn easy and its ran a lot anyway.

Not on our server(both mine and OP are same server). It's a whole different world, literally and figuratively.

On our server, you will be lucky to find more than 5 /2 advertisement for a heroic PuG a day during the week. Of those rare PuG Adverts, you will lucky to find one that is looking for a non-specific DPS. About 70% are looking for healers, 27% are looking for tanks, 3% are looking for DPS, but 98% of that 3% are looking for a specific class (usually lock or mage). Hunters are in an overabundance on our server, and that's significant considering ours is one of(if not the)lowest population server in game, so most heroic pugs already have a hunter in the group when they start advertising in trade so they don't really want another hunter, but will eventually settle for one if you are lucky enough to be on at that time.

So my advice Al, is the same as what I told you in game, use Aeth's sticky about gear, and upgrade with the stuff that is easily available to you first, and work up from there. It will be a hell of a lot easier getting quest rewards and crafted gear first, then get regular instance drops. From there you can try to PuG Kara and heroics for the better epic drops. It will be slow but at least you will make progress.

Oh and don't be cheap about the gems and enchants either, get the best available. The blue quality gems and the best available enchants. At this point you won't be switching the gear out all that often, and besides there isn't much else to spend your money on anyway.

Whats so great about some Health (endurance), armor(thick hide), dodge (catlike reflaxes) and range (hakw eye) to make you ignore a lot of dps?

for reference: your spec vs cookie cutter spec
+ 2% dps from FF
+ 6% dps from Mortal shots
+ ~5-6% dps from Imp. AotH
+ 4% pet dps from animal handler
+ pet dps from GftT.
- 4% hp (and 8% pethp)
- armor
- spirit bond
- dodge
- range

You'd get about 15% more dps for losing a bit of soloability....

If you ask me, i'd say you are afraid to lose your capability to solo as easy as you do now.
Wich is pretty much an irrelevant fear.
I'm SV and i can solo for an eternity without any trouble and hardly any breaks...
And the cookie cutter spec is still 20 times better at soloing then my spec.

my spec has saved me more time then people think when my trap breaks too soon i would of died without the hp i had from endurance so if it isnt broken why fix it when noone saids anything about my dps

But you're ignoring the fact that if you're putting out more DPS, you won't need that extra survivability. I don't know if you realize just how much DPS you're missing out on. It's just not appropriate at all for raiding, and you don't need it to solo.

With your gear, you should easily be able to solo anywhere in outland with ease. You won't have a super-tank easy-mode pet, but your DPS will well make up for it.

And if you honestly plan on getting into Kara and 25-man raids, don't be surprised when your raid leader asks you to respec. It's pretty common practice for a raid leader to check up on that stuff- especially if the group doesn't have the particular instance on farm.

Didn't you ask for the best upgrade advice? So if it isn't about DPS then what is it about?

Quite frankly your Spec would not only be the easiest upgrade, but probably the most differential increase in DPS you will see in one change than any single piece of gear upgrade you can get.

Not to mention Endurance means zero while raiding. If you get hit, you're dead. Armor, same thing. Spirit Bond is awful. Dodge could potentially save you... but I doubt it. Range =/= Mortal Shots.
#19 Feb 27 2008 at 7:24 PM Rating: Default
ok sorry the best gear upgrades and yes i know how much dps i lose from not having the best spec my r/l friend who is also a hunter with that spec saids for me to respec but the fun part of the game for me is to use the spec i made from lvl 10 to 70 and btw my raid leader hasnt asked me to change yet

At least he has Mortal Shots and GftT. :D

Oh yeah, while we're (sort of) on the topic, this is easily the worst hunter I've ever seen:

http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Feathermoon&n=Destructors

We found out about this guy when my roommate was in a ulda group with him. I don't even remember all of the nonesense that came out of his keyboard (because we were all crowded around laughing), but the one thing that still sticks out is that his pet didn't need growl, because he had intimidate.

One day I killed him 12 times in a row at Halaa for ***** and giggles. He had ~5K more hps than me at the time.

Yea 5k more HP than most of us. All those Epics and still sux. Sad commentary on the Hunter class. Must PvP alot with over 7K kills, but the Arena is nothing and only stat he has is Stam.

If you need ~4% extra hp to save you while soloing, you're doing something horribly wrong.
While in any heroic/raid things will 1/2 shot you anyway so that health aint going to help much.
And if i remove 4% of your hp, you'll have ~7857 hp left.
Still 850 over what i recommend people to have for karazhan.

Its neat to have some extra hp in raids though, mostly for AoE dmg and other things you cant avoid.
But it wont make or break you, a difference of 15% in dps will.
How much dps do you do now? about 600-650?
Lets take 600 to be on the safe side.
Now lets see what a difference 15% in dps makes: 600 x 1.15 = 690.
Thats 90(!) dps more, do you honestly want to leave that for a small bit of soloability?
Also, realise that that 90 dps goes up to make a 54000 damage difference in a 10 minute fight.
That can mean the difference between downing a boss or wiping.

And honestly, people shouldnt have to tell you your spec isnt suited for raiding.
You should be thinking of that yourself.

(now i'm going to nitpick a bit, dont be to bothered by it but these are small improvements on gear you can get right now.)
replace the +6 hit gem in your helm by +4hit/4agi, this will keep you hitcapped and add 0.1% crit/4Ap.
Replace the 9 stam gem in your bracers by +8Ap/2mp5, you are high on stamina so you can afford to lose some.
get +15 agility on gloves (not so much nitpicking, that is just important)
2x +8 agi in your belt, would give you 4 extra AP and 0.4% extra crit as well as 3 int from the socketbonus.
+12 agility on boots.
Add all those things up and you get:
+47 agility
+ 3 intellect
+ 8 Attack power
+ 2 Mp5
- 2 hit (you'll still be hitcapped)
- 18 stamina

This whole thread is about AP...

You want AP for...... oh my, dps, who would have known?
There's not a lot of point getting your AP up if your dps is still gimped.
