I guess this is addressed to Dilbrt, but for others to comment on, too.

First, let me say thanks to Dilbrt for making the guide. I have referred to it frequently and it has been quite useful. There is a lot of great information in it. On to my comment...

I think the guide might be better if heroic gear was seperated from the guide in some manner. Or, if the guide were split into pre-Kara and in-Kara portions. I'll use the head slot as an example: the options listed are Mask of Penance from SV, then a heroic boss drop and a badge purchase epic. For the guide to be pre-Kara, shouldn't there be more options for gear from 70s instances, or from quests or other non-heroic avenues of pursuit? Or, are options for pallys just too limited?

Maybe I'm completely off-base, but I feel that running heroics and running Kara are similar in gear/stat requirements. So, to have as many badge items and gear from heroic bosses in the guide is misleading (if that's the right word). If you are geared to run heroics, aren't you geared to run Kara? I think as it is, the guide is kind of combination of pre-Kara gear list and in-Kara/heroic gear (or kind of a combo of into 25-man content without the Kara gear) guide.

Anyway, again thanks to Dilbrt for all the work done on the guide. The above thoughts have just been brewing in my head the more I've looked at the guide and tried to strategize gearing up my pally. I just wanted to put it in writing for consideration.

Generally people run heroics several times before kara. Its a good prep ground, but they really aren't one in the same.

You can get buy in heroics with a low MP5 or crit, but kara isn't that way.

Then again, he does have a point - I have seen several times where people say that heroics require better gear and skill than Kara as you are often the lone healer. Maybe's it's not a bad idea.

People think that since they are the lone healer in heroics they need to compensate for that by having better gear. They don't have a safety net of other healers, so they need to have much better gear.

That's just not the true, you can get by with non-heroic gear in heroics better than you can get by with non-heroic gear in Kara. This is true because fights in heroics don't tend to last very long, and in a good group, only one or a couple people are getting hit and a good healer can manage that. Since Kara is a raid, you need to be prepared to heal for an extended period of time, and mp5 and crit becomes much much more important. Also, the other healers are generally keeping other people up as more people tend to get hit in a raid, so it all balances out.

I'd say that if you run through heroics fairly haphazardly, and don't take advantage of all of the tools your group has to offer, then yes... There are some heroics that take significantly more "clutch" skill and gear to pull off than kara.

If you take it at a reasonable pace (obviously, some heroics are going to be easier than others) and use your sheep/saps/traps/banish/shackles and give your Rogues time to dismantle the bombs, and blah blah blah tandem... then heroics demand WAY less gear. I wouldn't say this means they take less skill as well, because in this case you're demonstrating the same skill and discipline needed in Raids, but they certainly take less of that "clutch" skill.

The other big factor gearing up for heroics is your group. If you're running with guildies at a similar gear level all is well. If you're the tank with only a little heroic experience and hardly any raid progression, and you're PuGing with a Tier 6 Rogue with Twin Blades (let's set aside the "Why would the Rogue be running the heroic, much less PuGing it questions) then you're likely to get ridden very hard by the DPS.
