What BG PVP (non-arena) armor/weapon/shield for Prot Pally?Follow

Ok, been doing some BG's and I would like to get your thoughts as to what armor I should go for? I was told that this set would work?

http://www.wowwiki.com/Grand_Marshal%27s_Aegis_%28set%29

As for a shield and sword I was just going to use what I have Crystalforged Sword and Netherwing Defender's Shield.

If not any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

prot gear through PvP is the worst thing you can do. other specs can get away with it for a starter set, most can even do great with it.

protection in PvP gear however will not work. Read the FAQ on mitigation for the Details. just know that you will waste your time getting pvp gear for Tanking.

If your a druid however, its different. i've had a pvp geared Druid tank and and we one shotted all of the bosses. and when we started he was getting 4th or 5th on the DMs. . .

But, back to the issues at hand. Dont use PvP gear for Tanking! ive seen a 14k HP pally not make it past the first boss a standard lvl 70 instance with a more then adiquate Healer. . . i actually think i cryed a little that night.

you need Defense, you need Avoidance Stats.

I do not intend to tank with this gear at all. Was just going to use it in BG's? should i just stick with my tanking gear in BG's?

Thanks

tanking in a BG will not get you very far.

you may think that you can defend as a tank for longer.

but a 41/20/0 Holy pally will live far longer just spamming flash of light on its self. And you have the added bonus of healing other people. which in a BG, if both sides suck/not coordinated, then side who wins is the one with more healers.

All in all, there is little place for a prot in PvP. now im not saying dont pvp as a prot. but there are better ways to spend your Honor then with "pvp prot" gear.

try building up a pvp Holy or Ret set, then respec after you gotten a few pieces.

and of course this post is entirely opinion. If you really want to PvP as a Prot, then of course the PvP prot gear will "i guess" help you reach that goal.

There really isn't any prot gear for PvP. There is healing, retribution, and shockadin gear. The reason there is no gear that promotes prot in pvp is uselss in PvP. It's only usefullness where people will be glad you are prot is in AV if you want to tank the bosses, that's it. Sure you can kill dual-wielding or kitty melee that are stupid enough to kill themselves on your shield, but you have to rely on them actually being stupid enough to do that.

Spend your honor on other sets, and get your prot gear from instances.

the 'Aegis' sets are nothing but a big block of stamina and resil. Most people who use them r healers anyway and the items are enchanted and gemed for healing.

A well geared prot pally is a pretty solid flag carrier in WSG too. We run guild premades from time to time, and maybe it's just because of having organization for a change, but we do really well usually. He always has the flag, a couple healers and a few dps follow him back, they progress slowly up the field, and I don't think I've ever seen him die.

Never underestimate the stupidity of the average WoW player! ;)
