Confused about gear for endgame/heroicsFollow

#1 Feb 25 2008 at 11:22 AM Rating: Decent
Hello all,

I'm a little confused about when my hunter will be ready for endgame. I'm currently a lvl 70 (just dinged last week after months of play) BM with a cat. You may look at my armory listing http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Scarlet+Crusade&n=Tuyen.

I've seen Alla threads about people complaining about heroics groups where some people have greens on. I have decent gear, and have been running normal level instances for a month or so, slowly upgrading. But I still have a few greens.

I was invited to a heroic ramparts last night (PuG) and initially said no because of my gear, but they said come anyway. Luckily it worked out well, and my boots even dropped from the first boss, but in general do greens=no heroics? Can I even think about entering Kara (just got attuned this weekend) in the near future, or just grind it out for the remaining slots of gear upgrades according to the sticky above?

Any advice will help. Thanks in advance.

Rule of thumb:

If you have greenies, your groupmates had better make up for it with an equal amount of epics or more. If you have nothing but blues, your groupmates can also have nothing but blues. If you are fully epic, you can have groupmates with half greens.

For Karazhan, you should be fully blue and enchanted unless your raidgroup is filled up with several fully epic groupmates that will make up for your sub-optimal gear/dps.

And Lo, NorthAI did descend from the mountaintop with stone tablets; scripted upon these stones were the rules of Hunter's to govern themselves.

For his next appearance, North will part the SouthShore Harbor. Smiley: lol

(good answer btw)

It's actually amazing how much you can carry people in kara. I went through the other day and realized I had done over 30% of the damage.

your amory looks great, by the way. I might replace some of those +16 AP red gems with +3 hit +3 agi orange gems (or the 4/4 version if you have the cash. Your gear isn't worth spending all that money on, though). If you can get your hit rating up a bit, you'd actually do quite well in Kara. You're also at the point where you should be gemming Agility gems rather AP gems. Don't go out and spend all that money to regem, but as you get new gear socket them with the Agi versions of the gems.

Don't worry about your cloak too much. It's pretty decent for a green, and it's awesome that you have it enchanted. You'll get two chances to replace it on your very first Kara run. Shade of Aran drops a really nice cloak with hit rating. Or if you're not lucky, you can pick up Blood Knight War Cloak for 25 badges. You'll likely get about 18-22 badges if you down prince.

Also, your trinkets are fine. It's not always the best idea to have two use: increase AP trinkets, but they both have great stats on them, and it's better than going into an instance with an Insignia of the Alliance or Riding Crop.

Oh, and I'm totally jealous that you have 375 enchanting. I've been sitting at 371 for a while, lol. I don't have much time to run instances any more, and I'm too cheap to buy Large Prismatic Shards.

I would actually say don't do this.
When Patch 2.4 goes live there will be better gear available to buy with those badges.
IMO, Save those badges like they were going out of style!

Theres the nice stats to aim for in that sticky too.
When you are nearing that, you´ll be ready for karazhan.

Thank you all for the advice and replies.

I have been using the gear sticky and I think that most of my gear is from that list (besides the cloak and trinkets). And I've enchanted almost every item I can. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

It seems that some people seem to think I'm ok for a kara/heroic run, and other do not...this is what confuses me. I don't want to take a spot if I'm truly not ready gear-wise, but yet want to go one one sooner than later. I guess i'll leave it to a party group to decide if I'm worth taking on or not. In the meantime, I'll continue to run instances or grind rep for some of my outstanding items.

Also, are you advising that I should switch to AGI gems on my next upgrades? Wouldn't that hinder my cat, which is a big part of my dps? Is there a set stat that I should be aware of that will "clue" me in that my focus should be AGI over Attack?

Sorry for the extra questions. As I've said, I'm a tad confused at this stage in the game. Thanks again.

I do agree that people shouldn't frivolously spend badges on things like the gloves, pants belt or ring, but the cloak and Bloodlust brooch are still really good investments to get into higher-end raids. Sure, you can wait around for the cloak that drops off of Shade, or even the one that drops off of prince, but I've only ever seen either of those once.

results may vary, I suppose.

They may indeed vary. I've only seen the Prince cloak drop once, and never the Aran cloak. And when the Prince cloak dropped we had four (4) Rogues and an Enh Shaman in the group. I didn't want to roll against that crowd, and I'd rather have the Aran cloak in any event.

OP: Your rings and the Uniting charm can all be upgraded with quest rewards. But you are Kara ready, if on the low end. You should be able to hold your own for the first few Bosses, and if you get some drops then against any Boss in Kara. Your stats are about where I set the bar for Hunters in my prior Guild when we were first entering, except for your low Hit Rating. Consider socketing HR gems in the empty gem sockets in your shoulder piece.
If your Guild has been in Kara for a while then you will be a junion contributor, but still a contributor. If they're all at your gear level you'll have some challenges downing the first few Bosses, but should be able to do so if you've got three skilled Healers.

Kinda important is who are you running kara with? Does you guild have it on farm with mains doing t5? if so gear is less of an issue than not being a doof and doing something that causes a wipe :P. I have carried guildies alt's through kara and when me baby hunter hits 70 i expect the same to be done for me.
