Hey,

Im gonna start a 2vs2 arena team with my mage m8.
2 start of with im gonna be destruction and plz note that its fun mostly (1850+ rating would be nice though)
I know any other spec then SL/SL gives u a -->REALLY<-- hard time in arena's and make me the squishiest thing that steps into arena's, but ive also seen several destruction locks with good/decent ratings.
The mage wishes to be frost so i think im gonna be very dependant of his snares/freezes.

I dont know if i should use a succubus or felhunter.
Think felhunter would bring more but in 1vs1 I find my succubus more usefull in more situations.

Also not certain about spec will be something like 5/5/51.
Anyway i hope some of the dest. locks in arena's can reply here and share their opinion.

Thnx in advance,
Raq

Those destruction warlocks most likely respec when they play arena, and then respecs destro when they raid.

You pet should always be felhunter. dispel and spell lock are insanely good :)

Arena's what? Since when did Arenas have possessions?

Anyway, back onto the topic, Unstable Affliction is probably your best bet if you want good early raiding (< T5) AND PvP. THIS (43/7/11 variant) is what I'm rolling with at the moment, a spec that's usable for both PvP and low-level raiding, and is pretty good at both too.

However, once you get into mid-level raiding or Arenas (< T5/1700) you'll need to be using separate specs for both. Unstable Affliction Warlocks will start needing the benefits given from D-SAC/DEST or SL/SL at that point.

I don't have experience of playing arena destro specced, but I do have some experience of playing with mage in various different specs, so I think I can give you some useful tips.

If your mage friend specs frost and you play as a destro, be prepared that you will be the main target of every arena you play. If you have good gear, you might survive long enough to win your games and if you don't... well, you can probably kiss 1850 ratings good bye* ^^

On the other hand, if your mage friend spec's as fire or arcane/fire he can do massive amount of damage and you would benefit from his scorches as well (also he will benefit from your CoE in case you use it). I believe that this setup will be more common after 2.4. since firelocks are getting some buffs as well as arcane mages. I have encountered some teams with this kind of setup and I can assure you that they can be really tough if played well. You 'just' need to make sure you keep your other opponent cc'd and kill the other one (preferably quickly). With good gear and skill, you can make it work (basically this will be your strategy in ~every game no matter what spec you play with since you have no healer). Succubus can actually be good replacement for felhunter if you decide to go destro, I have seen it working... Even though she will get killed pretty fast in most of your games.

Most of the destrolocks with good arena ratings are playing with healers (mostly with druids according to my experiences), but I have strong belief that firelock/firemage could also do well in arena's and that's why I have been considering to go for destro too (probably not in the near future though).

Please, keep us (or atleast me) posted how you are doing in arena if you decide to go destro :)

*Disclaimer: Difficulty level might vary between different battlegroups :)

dest 'could' work. frost mage + dest lock would be all about quick CCing and nuking down 1 target fast, imo though going UA could benefit you a bit more. more CC and surivability on your side, leaving you to be there to control and deal decent DoT while mage nukes.

post edit

oh and only pet you're allowed to use is felhunter. counterspell and paranoia are near enough unreplacable in arenas.

thnx for the replies, helped me a little currently spamming all classes forums to update my knowledge of each class more.

i still got loads of farming to do before i can enter arena's but my guild just started end-game content 4/5 MH dead and 3 BT bosses :) and i ninja'd the 1st T6 xD so this takes up allot of my time atm. It will take me a few months before i can enter arena's and they will prob have s2 for honor points then -.-

think im going sl/sl with the crit/spelldmg gear untill i got like 13k+ health and 250+ resilience before going dest. in arena's

Why would you go destro? And why not just hop in and start playing now? Gear is important in arena, but it takes a backseat to teamwork and knowing how to play your class effectively. I say jump in now and get that practice (and those arena points).

Yeah, that combo will only work of both of you have enough +dmg gear to be able and nuke down classes fast. You need to cc the healer and down the dps. A good strategy would be to have the mage start off invisible and get a sheep on the healer then try to bomb the dps. If he trinkets the poly, use your felhunter to spell lock, when that ends throw in a deathcoil and fear. If that breaks have the mage counterspell. Hopefully by then you will have downed the dps. Druid healers and Pally's will be a problem because druids can shapeshift out of sheep and there HoT's will tick while they are cc'ed while Pally's can bubble. For druids, if you can, after the shapeshift out of poly, hit them with deathcoil before they shapeshift back to caster or get in a shadowfury. Then fear them in whatever form they are in. The only way you guys can make that combo work though is if you have almost perfect execution and cc timing.
