Holy shock and 2.4Follow

#1 Feb 23 2008 at 8:25 PM Rating: Decent

So what do you guys think of the changes comming to holy shock? Currently on the PTR my holy shock costs a lot more, but heals for more. Not to mention, the set bonus on arena gear has been changed to add +30% to holy shock.

Personally I think it will help those situations where holy shock was needed. Although I will be using it much less in PvE.

what kind of increases are you seeing? Currently holy shocks instant heal is so worthless its almost not worth using, however, paladins lack of an instant heal is something that really hurts them badly in arena. This sounds like a decent buff if it actually does something.

With my season one gear, it was healing for more than FoL. Although it costs over 3 times as much to cast. Its 650 now I think? Up from about 480 if I remember right.

It needs a serious buff to be useful for healing.

They can't buff it too much. Holy Shock is weak and inefficient for a reason.

You have to consider, no class in this game has an instant direct heal. Shaman and Druids have one instant direct heal every three minutes with Nature's Swiftness, human Priests have the self-cast-only Desperate Prayer. Every other instant heal is an HoT or has some kind of gimicky mechanic (Earth Shield, Prayer of Mending) which leaves them vulnerable to dispell, and for good reason.

Holy Shock becoming a strong, efficient heal would be all it would take for Paladins to replace Druids at the top of the arena healing list (hell, they would be the list) and become literally unkillable. An instant, uninterrutable, unsilencable, undispellable heal every 15 seconds? The only way to stop that would be to drain your mana.

This is another of a bunch of recent changes meant to change something in arena that has negative side effects for raiders. Increasing its mana to over 600 makes this F'in useless! That's almost as much as a holy light! What they really needed to do, leave the tooltip healing/damage and mana exactly the way it is now, and just increase the coefficient it gets from your healing. That's all they had to do! But no, they make it good for arena (which is usually so fast, you don't mind spending that much mana for an instant heal), and ******* terrible for raiding.

I'm half considering taking the talent point out of my build. I could certainly use it elsewhere.

First, one instant heal every 15 seconds is hardly gamebreaking. Whoever is being healed will be taking far more damage than a Holy Shock can handle. Not to mention, on larger teams, they'll likely have wound poison / MS / aimed shot on them too.

Mana drain / mana burn is already incredibly strong versus paladins. Even with the new resilience changes in 2.4, it will still be very strong to use on other healers.

The holy shock change is nice, but the cost should be cut a ton. Make it a really practical heal. The holy tree needs it.
