I am sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, but I could not find it.

I was thinking of starting soon, and I want to be a mage, but is a human a better choice, for their def/spirit, or a gnome for max int?

Are there pros and cons to each?

I picked a pink-haired female Gnome simply because it attracts a lot of wannabe gankers and I always keep a high level character close by.

In the end, just pick whatever you dont mind looking at the back of for 70 lvls. At the end the race bonus wont matter much, humans do get xp and rep bonus from what I hear though, which would be nice.

I believe it is just rep, not xp (and 10% by the way).

There is no real difference between the two as a single point here and there does not matter (speaking of defense/int/spirit)

Checked wowwiki, Anobix is right, it is just rep, "Diplomacy", would still be nice for faction grinding.

Or the front of, if you like making wallpapers out of in-game screenshots like me. Also, make sure you don't mind the voice of the character.

Though if you PvP a lot, OP, the racial "Uses" for all three alliance mages have their benefits, but gnome is usually favored for the ability to break an extra root/snare.

Edit: Oh, and OP, since I can tell you've played FFXI, please understand that this game is nothing like FFXI. Race choice will not extremely gimp you for any class. Each has a minor benefit to it that really only shows its full extent in PvP.

It's sorta been covered, but humans would seemingly be better for PvE endgame because rep will be higher for the many factions grinded, and gnomes get Escape Artist which is greater than the stealth detection for pvp.

Male Draenei, simply because they are rare :)

Gotta love the way Gnomes laugh.

Female gnomes... good laugh... male gnomes are just freaky and only good for punting.

If gnomes weren't so damn nice, I would've rolled a human - perception simply owns arenas and +rep = nice. But the lookfactor counts rather much, and who can resist a gnome? they look so cute, while still so deadly!

Also, don't forget that humans have Perception (i.e. stealth detection). It's a short one, but useful. Especially for a mage who wants to stay out of melee range.

Draenei have the 1% crit and HoT which are also awesome.

Like everyone said though - it really doesn't matter. Just choose whichever one you'd rather look at.

And the sound that female gnomes make when they get hit! Wow it makes me chuckle every time.

Dont forget about the dances. Male gnomes have IMO the best dance in the game!
