I've been looking into combat daggers lately to help rid me of this pathetic SF/AR build and I was wondering about its viability in Battlegrounds (not arenas!). I already know it can excel in PvE, which is why I want to check its PvP viability.

First off is build. I was thinking something like this. Note I took imp SS because I think it would be much better while farming motes. I have both the S1 maces and S1 daggers so that isn't a problem. Should I change anything to the build, or is it alright?

I know positioning is a problem, but I seem to not have this in battlegrounds, just a quick jump and a 180 is all it takes.

Now, before you say it, I do realize that resillience is a big problem for dagger builds, but with +30% crit on my main attack (Backstab) I still have a net gain of ~10% crit chance on someone who has 400 resillience (~20% crit reduction) and with +36% damage to Backstab (20% from opportunity, 10% from surprise attacks, and 6% from aggression) and the few points in lethality, that should negate most of the damage resillience mitigates from crits.

Now for the third problem, combo points. Combat daggers has the lowest CP generation of all the builds. I find myself using KS quite a bit, but only as merely an interrupt or (anti)kiting tool most of the time, and for that I dont need that many CPs, just enough to get them for a couple seconds. Is this a really big problem in PvP?

I would love any input you have on viability, but I do not want to go combat maces just yet. Thanks in advance!

General consensus is that Combat Daggers is as dead as a dodo.

I would go something like this (15/41/5)
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=f0ecohZ0eqbbEz0MhotV

Drop the Improved Sinister Strike, Improved Gouge, and Nerves of Steel. The points could be used better elsewhere. My philosophy on this is Rogues have 2 main abilities for gaining combo points. Backstab, and SS... chose one and max it out. The other points coupel be put into Lighning Reflexes, and Endurance, and to throw another point into expertise. I think that would be more efficitent, and you can still use backstab for farming if you gouge first.

But the idea is good.. You should have about a 55% chance to crit with your backstab before resillience kicks in (30% improved backstab, 5% dagger spec, 5% Malice, + whatever your base crit chance is). Even after resillience you should still have about a 30% chance to crit.

Without Improved SS it may not be quite as efficient for soloing/farming, but should be a little better for raiding/pvp.

***I had a big post to fit here, but do to a technical error it is no more and you will have to bare with me on this one***

It appears the idea of my original post wasn't grasped. I'm trying to find a middle-ground for farming/pvp without using a completely non-daggers build (tough, I know).

I am well aware that daggers are almost completely dead, and I dont want to follow the herd.

I'm not about topping damage charts or anything fancy. All I want to do is have fun and I've already been shadowstep.

tachambeiggy, you almost completely understood me, but you lost the part on imp SS and nerves of steel. Imp SS is for farming with my maces. The NoS is for pvp, and I would take NoS over vitality any day in pvp. You did, however catch my drift on having 30% crit after resillience.

Rate ups for everyone. I know I can be difficult at times when I try to explain myself and I'm sorry for leading you into an unlit room so to speak.

Is there any reason why you don't want to go Mutilate? You can farm and PvP with that all in one spec.

CS->Muti->Eviscerate = dead mob

I'm mainly just trying to find something new and interesting. The boards have been real quiet lately and I'm trying to get something going.

Since 'fun and interesting' cannot be empirically proven, we're not gonna be a lot of help to you. We can tell you what is more efficient, even just between talent choices, but not what's more fun to you. My advice would be make sure you understand what each talent does for you and how you want to play your character then figure out a way to make around 50g reliably and just respec, respec, respec until you figure out what works for you.

Check my build out if you want to play combat dagger, it's pretty standard from what i've seen
i've come to realise that i'm not gonna be the top dps with his spec against equally geared sword rogues but aslong as i'm close i'm happy. It is alot of fun to play, even though its postion reliant, but if your doing aything but raiding it's really not worth doing.

Since you're not seeking the most optimal damage, you need to give a range of acceptable damage (maybe even, "desired killing speed") so that you can then allocate the rest of possible talent points or gear to "fun" stuff like utility moves or big-crits.
