I didn't want to hijack the other player's OTing thread so i made my own.

I'm Fury spec and I sometimes get handed the OT position. My question is: Should I carry a shield with me for these times? Or maybe some other tank gear? I am built for DPS and that is what my gear is revolving around.. I'm getting ready to start running heroics (not geared enough for Kara yet) and I'm not exactly sure what should be required of me in those situations. I can get hate and keep it pretty easily but being built for DPS I don't take a hit like a tank (obviously).

Also, should I be in Def stance? Or Stay in Beserker?

When you're OTing in Kara or Heroics, you'll DEFINITELY want to be wearing a shield and in Defensive Stance. Otherwise you're gonna be getting hit for like 6k a pop easily. However, I'm not sure how many groups, if any, you're going to find for heroics as an OT. Most heroic groups don't want an OT, they just want more CC instead. Think about it, you can either OT one mob and require tons of mana keeping you healed, or you can scrap the OT all together and replace with a mage. It's also hard finding a group for heroics as a non-prot warrior, but when you do I'm it will usually be for DPS and not for OTing.

Always.

Rarely necessary while OT:ing, but if you even MT: Yes.

In the few heroics you'll get in to (due to the warrior class' lack of CC, and the bad reputation of the average DPS warrior) you'll be expected to do good DPS while staying alive and below the tank in threat.

You should be in Def. Stance for OT:ing, and almost exclusively in Berser. Stance for DPS.

here is just an overall answer

you should always be carrying around your prot gear, including your shield. Even if you are 99% sure that you will not tank anything, you never know where things will go with the raid, who will dc or have to leave on a whim. Don't slow the raid down by having to hearth back to shat, get your stuff out of the bank and get resummoned.

I know it's a huge pain in the *** to have all that different gear, but it is necessary as a warrior... unfortunately.

Most definitely a pain in the ***. I've got my AC/Stam set, my avoidance set, my block value set for trash and 5 mans with high block value and rating, and then my threat set for tanking, along with a DPS set for raids. I also have some pieces I swap into that DPS set in case I'm doing a 5 man, for when I don't need as much hit as I would inside of a raid. That's a lot of bag space taken up.

that's not even including resistance gear... between my tanking set, dps set, shadow resist set, arcane resist set, and gathered mats from mining, i only had a bag and a half of free space on me at one time...

I keep my resist gear in the bank because it's only needed at certain times. I used to have an arcane resist set for kara, a long time ago, for the mana things before curator, but I let those go and just go heavy on stam now. I have some shadow pieces. I'm building a FR set again, but I do have a full NR set for SSC.
